I feel like Boyle couldnt dribble past anyone without falling and his finishing is terrible. He might score for Hibs once in a while but just a liability for national team. A waste of space really. I couldn’t remember the last time he had a great game for the socceroos.

Rather see Bennie, Arzani or even Atkinson moves up as RW

What about Botic? Why Juric is infront of him?

I like the 2 Toure together tho.

Can't really complain about that squad, Boyle the latest frustration maybe? Happy for Elder to finally get a call up.
Guess Popa really taking a look at some centre forwards this window. Overy looked good for the u20's and an interesting one.
Thought Atkinson and Mauragis might have been worth a shout.

This would be the most experimental squad. Far more than I would have ever expected.

I guess this sums it up. Casting a wide net, thinking further about the Asian Cup and next WC qualifying.

Okon is interesting. I haven't watched Sydney this season, but it seems like this might be more than a squad experience pick, might actually get minutes. I find the Kewell pathway to be the exception. These kind of kids exist but are exceptionally rare. Is Okon (or Overy) this level of 10 year socceroo talent who doesn't need the runs on the board clubwise?

I watched Beach win the ACL match for City during the week. Seems like a good inclusion. Elder probably due for an injury this weekend. Toure probably sticks out, he has shown flashes his whole career but never consistently put things together. I would have liked to have seen Sapsford, clear anti WSW bias again on show.

I don't think we should think of it as one player being ahead of another for these squads. More likely is he has seen Botic, now wants to see some other guys.
Boyle is there because he is playing and has 40 caps. You need this when you only have 11 guys with more than 10 caps picked.

Annoyed about Boyle, D'Agostino and O'Neill. Can't change too much. Selections sending the right messages. Nothing wrong with Yazbek just another sit out window.

Really wonder if Teague were available.

Overy has been training with the Manchester United first team.
Saw somewhere that Teague has a meniscus problem

Juric? Playing in the backblocks in Eastern European leagues all of his career, not really impressing anywhere, hasn’t scored many goals this season, a 28 year old journeyman, and takes up a spot in a squad trying to be developed for a World Cup in 7 months time?

Al Hassan Toure? Ok, scored a hat trick in his last game against a defensively dire Newcastle, but has been pretty much anonymous for the rest of the season. Did bugger all in Europe over the past couple seasons. Again, why have him take up a spot?

Woukd rather see Sapsford and Botic in there.
Juric a smokey but check out the Aussies Abroad Golden Boot thread here on G&GFC. Denic is 2nd on the leaderboard with 8 or 9 goals and 2 assists or something like that. For Koper 16 goals in 25 appearances, and 5 games straight for the Polish team with a couple of goals. Even Slovenia and Poland are probably a better standard than the A-League.

Agree to an extent about Al Hassan, but striker is the position we have the least depth. More annoyed with Boyle taking up a spot.

Such a weird team picking overy but then dagger or alhassan I dunno how popa picks the team tbh

I like Poppa's experimentation here. Overy looked the goods at the U20 world cup. Could be a massive player for Australia for many years and world cups to come.

Maybe striking while the knife is hot, in picking Al Hassan. His last game performance was impressive. At least good to see the possibility of two of the Toure's playing together in the national team. Glad he is being considered, but surprised that someone like Caputo didn't get a look in.

Disclaimer to start - I have never seen Deni Juric play. I'd be surprised if many on here have seen him also, at least in the last few years. So I am only going off stats here.

25/26 season - 9 games for Koper (Slovenia), 7 goals
5 games for Wisla Plock (Poland), 1 goal

24/25 season - 23 games for Koper, 11 goals

(stats ex Transfermarkt)

Koper finished 3rd in the Slovenian league (a 10 team competition) in 24/25. They lost in the qualifying rounds of 25/26 Europa Conference League 12-3 on aggregate to Viking of Norway (D'Agostino's and Stensness' club). I would be mildly surprised if the Slovenian league is better than the A League.

And while Wisla Plock are currently 2nd in Poland, 1 goal in 5 games for them, plus goals in what seems to be a weak Slovenian league does not really scream out international call-up to me.

Popa is casting a wide net will be interesting his WC squad with arguably the AC squad capable of winning
