I wonder if Poppa intends to apply a mid block more this game and press a bit higher, might work better with Leckie and Vellupilay up front?

He's set it up to go for the win but it's a bit one dimensional. If they breach us early, it will be panic stations. Down 0-2 goals when Irankunda comes on in that scenario wouldn't be setting us up to win. I can't see how we can score in the first-half unless Bos just carries us.

Velupillay is good in transition if we win the ball higher up and Toure is good for a steal.

I'd like to have a bit of the ball. Maybe the USA will show some respect and it might be like against Japan away a few cycles back.
 
Bah, this will be a bit dirty I feel. Can see Nesta getting man handled if he comes on . Toure better be ready to fucking score this time

Not a bad thing if we win free kicks in dangerous areas. Hope to see both wing backs get up as well.

Either beats or draws fouls better than Leckie. His qualifying performances were great with diagonal runs and short passing moments with some pivots suddenly creating space.

I'm glad he's getting a start but time will tell.
 
Ideally yeah, but this team is not built to dominate possession. The US will be so fired up in front of home crowd, there wiill be no competing with them in terms of midfield control and possession in the first 20 minutes, but the plan will be to hold them out, frustrate them, take the crowd out of it, and hit on the counter.

This is why I'd we'd started Irankunda and Mabil quick transition balls over the top will have then reeling. The USA are going to go hard early to make us question of set up

I think the mid block and high press will work better against the United States compared to the tactical system Popovic implemented against Turkey because they're stronger in midfield and up front and we want to be shutting them down early given their pace and agility.
