Socceroos vs Turkey 2026 World Cup match thread 🇦🇺🇹🇷

Round Ball Australia confirms that Mo Toure was back at training today, and scoring bangers according to Jacob Italiano. We've definitely got goals in this team: Toure, Yengi, Irankunda, Bos - also Souttar, Irvine, Metcalfe. Burgess and Italiano have scored in clubland.
I just hope Poppa unleashes them early enough. I'd love it if he's dreamed up a master strategy of foxing the Turks, who will be expecting the usual catenaccio low block. Hold the line for the opening 15 mins, then suddenly, against a complacent defence, turn into Epic Fury Angeball and go into half-time 2-0 up. (Then I wake up)
I wouldn't be surprised. I'm certain the slow starts are a deliberate tactic to build complacency in your opponent's mentality, and he's given the lads instruction to be really slow in both warm up games knowing Turkey will analysis the shit out of it. No way a team wakes up and performs in 2nd half totally different like we've seen. My guess is Poppa will have a few surprises he's holding close to his chest.

Or I'm completely wrong. either one. As always, it's the hope that kills.

But why lol
Heather Garriock cited the expansion in the depth of the Socceroos playing list and our strong positioning for the future when announcing Tony Popovic's contract extension but it'll all be for nothing if our World Cup campaign goes pear-shaped and ultimately it'll be in the best interests of the fans and Football Australia to bring in a new head coach.

I've been wondering the same, I guess we'll find out soon. One of his pressers he kind of alluded to it, saying he was holding back what they would play like, keeping a few things hidden or something like that.

Interesting i just looked at the average age of first xis for countries. Pretty much all between 28 and 30 for the average

Ours will probably be a massive outlier at 26 depending on who starts
It also means that we probably keep improving until at least 2034 when all 11 will be born 2002 or later and all will be in their prime

What result are we wanting from the US vs Paraguay game that benefits us the most?

I believe we want the US to win 1-0. We DO NOT want Paraguay to win, because that will severely diminish our chances of making third place. We want Paraguay to lose both games against the US and Turkey as our best safety net, meaning we only need to beat them in the final game to have a strong chance to make it through in third-place.

If Paraguay win, another danger is the effect on the US team when they against the Socceroos. The US will enter our match with a dangerous, desperate and firey intensity which could hurt us easily. I'd rather play them when they're more comfortable not when their attack is trying anything to score a goal, we will not win.

A draw is another possible result, it's okay but it gives both teams life which could hurt us later if results go a certain way where Turkey, US and Paraguay all go into the last match-day on 2-4 points and Paraguay now only needs to draw against us instead of win to go through.

I think mentally, you want the better team to win first and sacrifice one team in the group that you are hoping to lose both of their other games. We simply need to root against Paraguay in both of their games.

Obviously, we control our own destiny but it would be nice to have a safety net if we lose our first two games. Bank on Paraguay losing as well so we just need to beat them to have a strong chance to make it out.

Ahh...unfortunately Circati isn't available against Turkey tomorrow, he has switched his allegiance to Brazil 🇧🇷 🎉🎉🎉

Alessandro Circati seems more suited to the expressive Brazilian style of play but sadly he is restricted by the park the bus mentality of Tony Popovic's tactical system.
