They can still play for third if we lose to US though - a win over us in that scenario will them them finish 3rd (assuming Turkey also get points against USA)If Paraguay lose to Turkey next week then they'll only be playing for pride against us though so we could give Izzo a run between the sticks instead.
If we play the same way we did today we can still eke out a draw against the United States though but of course we'll have to adapt the system since their midfield and forward line are more dangerous compared to Turkey. They can still play for third if we lose to US though - a win over us in that scenario will them them finish 3rd (assuming Turkey also get points against USA)
Thing is we weren't boring. I was so gripped at being suffocated and the challenge it presented. I was that asphyxiated that I can cancel my domina appointment this week.I hate this underlying sentiment that football is only allowed to be played a certain way.
I think it’s what held us back between 2010 and 2022.
We play to our strengths, we know we aren’t good enough to keep the ball against better opponents.
Yes, very true - I think the key for US will be to not let them score first/early.If we play the same way we did today we can still eke out a draw against the United States though but of course we'll have to adapt the system since their midfield and forward line are more dangerous compared to Turkey.
A lot of that was down to how much we parked the bus though. There was probably single digit minutes where all our team wasn’t on the screenOnce the dust settles watching back it'll be frustrating how quickly we gave back the ball. Also the way our clearances always landed at their feet.
Popaball relies on parking the bus but what worked for us was that we forced Turkey forward before our tall centre backs blocked their shots at goal and progressed the ball downfield which led to us finding the back of the net through the counter attack.A lot of that was down to how much we parked the bus though. 2 draws in the next pair of matches and Paraguay and Turkey winning in the last round sees all 4 teams on 4 points.I believe so - I don’t think there’s a mathematical way for us to finish bottom of the group with 4 points
The Socceroos are on three points so if we eke out two draws we'd finish on five points though.2 draws in the next pair of matches and Paraguay and Turkey winning in the last round sees all 4 teams on 4 points.
Ideal would be a 1-0 over the USA and a Turkey win over Paraguay in MD2. That gets us top of the group2 draws in the next pair of matches and Paraguay and Turkey winning in the last round sees all 4 teams on 4 points.
and we go ahead of Turkey on H2H, USA over Paraguay H2H, Paraguay over us on H2H and Turkey over USA on H2H2 draws in the next pair of matches and Paraguay and Turkey winning in the last round sees all 4 teams on 4 points.
Im sure that result will shut up a few of the media pundits in America.
Good! All AFC team so far have he respectable results in the first lot of games.
True.Once the dust settles watching back it'll be frustrating how quickly we gave back the ball. Also the way our clearances always landed at their feet.
