Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

Yep. No way he will be involved in our next world cup finals.

Eli Adams, Botic and Goodwin will be primed in 2030.
💯 agree and add Younis to that.
Toure doesn't work hard enough I seen nothing what he did at Norwich in the wc even moment.

Not the sole reason but I can only surmise that Popa had a problem with Irankunda's positioning at LW in his meticulous low block..... He hinted something along those lines about him having to learn in the Turkiye post win interview.
This fact played a part in Popa's disaster-class of decisions from that moment on.
Popovic likes his wider forwards (I won't call them wingers) to invert leaving room for the wing backs to move forward. Irankunda hasn't come to terms with that just yet and prefers a wider position. It's one of the reasons Bos didn't come forward a lot in the Turkey game but when teamed up with Volpato on the right, even if the combination needs a bit more time, he found more space.

People need to remember that Redmayne has only saved about 4 penalties in his life . The Peru game was a bluff and Arnold and Crawley knew they would have nothing on Redmayne.

By taking off Ryan they were bluffing that Peru would think how good must this be.
They must have all been in the two shootouts I watched him in then.

Bos, Beach and Souttar (when fit) all good enough for the top leagues
Bos is physical beast but still makes odd decisions.. Talented football;er and may have a chance.. Beach is young for keeper and may or not have a career, had some spectacular saves this WC, ... a maybe from me.

Souttar is just tall, nothing else going for him.

Must say after watching Norway. The way they played i wish we can play half as good as them. They know how to defend, how to control the game and how to utilize the striker.

Look back at us we got Irankunda who couldn't head, couldn't do a simple link up play ,couldnt hold the ball being a useless number 9 for most of the 2 games.

I thought the same watching them, their first appearance @ WC since bloody '98.
Helps having a GUN forward but its the entire package.
Here we are some carrying on we are beasts making 6 WCups on the bounce, such and such haven't made it yaddayadda.
I can't be satisfied how and where we are whereas others opposite.

After we equalised Egypt with all the momentum then we decided to go back to the Popa ball again. We havent seen Irankunda/Toure/Volpato together the whole tournament. We got knocked out without giving it all. The fans were left with the question mark what if what if and what if.

Yep and 2 days on I'm still feel completely flat.

Losing to Argentina in a Rd of 16, you say oh well a powerhouse team won. Losing to Egypt in a Rd of 32 you really can't help thinking what could have been... 😪

I do agree Popa's formation and system do not cater to Irankunda's natural position and it is frustrating.

As for Bos? would 72% posession, 30 shots and a lead to defend against Turkiye have anything to do with that?

you see this is where some here don't respect Egypt - to all not you alone JM47 but a general view.
Could have should have - put aside Popa's game plan.
From my viewing they were better on the ball, had more possession, 7 corners to 4 and over 100+ pass's on us.
Yes alot of this hinged due to our tactics but they were better on the day - have 2 top players, Marmoush Salah.
Irakunda playing 9 was wrong but why didn't our fellas do better using the flanks, retain possession, open up more holes behind their backs for Irakunda to run onto for eg........
I get all our frustrations regards to Popa but the players need to take control and play it also.
We had no yellow cards in a do or die game.
It's complicated.

Irankunda actually surprised me with his back to goal ability and I think could work in a big man/small man partnership up front. However playing him as an isolated target man when Paraguay were never likey to leave behind and then doubling down against the Egyptians was fucking stupid.

Aside from the passing, tackling, jostling Souttar is just tall...

2-3 years ago he also had youth,,, now the Championship is his ceiling... Maybe on the bench for a relegation bound EPL side at very very best...
I tend to agree unlike some here think Wow to your reply and many others would as well.
He sure isn't a high level EPL/big league club standard, a sound reliable mid lower pack club - ala Covs/Sunderland Ipswich ????

On top of that managed by a Norwegian who pretty much honed his craft as a player and manager in the Northern European ecosystem.

If he can come back from a injury and perform like that at a world cup then he'll slot in many places at a high level. Many worsen have gotten EPL time. It'd be best to play regularly anyway so it doesn't need to be a top 5 league.

If his name were Souttaropolous you'd be saying different things.

You sure the OU in his name isn't some Greek link? He did injure his Achilles after all.

Good enough to perform in any system that doesn't play a high line is all I will say.

You look at many centre backs in the EPL and they're not all that great when stacked up against Souttar. Souttar has an elite passing game. His stature and composure is very good.

If shit like Bassey can get games for Fulham... The bloke is woeful.
