Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

Oh well I think a decent showing especially for the younger players.

We just missing a few top top players like Egypt have, someone the team can look to for inspiration Salah/Marmoush did that.

I expect by next world cup some of these boys will be at top clubs.

Maybe Circati and Volpato... Dont hold your breath for the rest I fear.
 
Kudos to Aziz Behich who ran himself into the ground.Also Aiden O'Neill who played out of his skin .Beach's save from the header was first class.Circati,Souttar and Herrington built a wall which the Pharoahs could not break down.Bos was so good until his injury from. that no holds barred tackle.Volpato did look good in the first half and continually had a go at defenders.
Nestory really needs to play on the wing so that the midfield can get the ball to him facing forward.He tried hard but wasted at CF .Toure was out of sorts -poor first touch and seems to be down on confidence.Okon-Engstler did not have much influence as we were defending and playing for penalties.Trewin does not have flair but did his job diligently though lacks pace to be a wing back.Hrustic could hve played with Volpato and given us some creativity but not in Popa's game plan.
Hopefully Bos has not done his ACL.
 
Good to Poppa and his coaching team copping it by the pundits. I don't rate Okon or Foxe either.

Apparently the Italians got hammered by other countries in 2006 for their boring defensive football too ….

We went backwards in the game when our subs came on. The Egypt subs were much better and swung momentum in their favour.

And our execution in attack was fairly ordinary most of the game.

Whoever the coach is they need more talent to work with.

We do get too defensive at times, but we created enough half chances that a more skillful team would have turned into goals.

Egypt were the better side, but we are not far off the starting lineup was good, we just need better depth.

We have the skill and depth - we just didn't pick them. We picked a squad to play the Popovic way and the subs were just worse players than the starters to play the Popovic way.

Australia has talent and skill - not to the extent of Spain or Brazil - but better than some in the squad. I'm not blaming the players - they were probably the next best to play the Popovic way. The Popovic way is the problem. You need to pick a squad that has a plan B that is not doing plan A better. For a tournament you pick a squad that is multimodal that can adapt to the opponent, that can change mid game.
 
They say football is a game of emotions but I can safely say never have I felt such overwhelming feelings of bewilderment during a football match, culminating in Ryan coming on as the precursor to Souttar walking up to take the first penalty kick and just a sinking feeling. Irankunda in a thankless role upfront, running himself into the ground and having to compete for so many balls in the air and actually doing alright....... All that time thinking Tete was a missed opportunity missed. Toure coming, wondering why he didn't start? Then thinking he looked underdone and shouldn't have played at all. Egypt with no recognised left back to field yet arse clown did not select a backup RWB in his initial squad to perhaps run at and exploit. Wishing we could field twelve players so that I could find a position that I would actually be 100% happy for Metcalfe to start in with this shit disjointed formation.
 
Popa did well in qualifying, not so well now that he had time with the squad to perfect his low block.
