Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

Sure yet keepers over two metres aren't saving them despite going the right way.

I think the taker should be wary of any keeper. If you pick your spot then you're somewhat of the way there.
Agree totally.

But the size comment originally was not so much about saving the shot - it is the cosmetic presence that a bigger keeper carries into the goal mouth to put a question of doubt in the taker's head.

However massive kudos to the players and especially the penalty takers. Souttar and Herrington put their hands up to take a penalty and for that they have my utmost respect!
I’d say that some senior players who were happy to let Herrington take a penalty under those circumstances should take a good look at themselves. As should the coaching staff. The only reason this hasn’t got every fan and commentator furious is that we missed 2.

Melbourne Victory chose not to renew Popovic's contract and he gets the NT job. Go figure
I was sceptical of Popovic when he was appointed to the NT but he got us through to the World Cup and we beat Japan so I began to be optimistic.

But on reflection, he qualified through AFC, probably the worst confederation bar the OFC and the lack of quality and talent from our opponents in qualifying hid the lack of ability of Popovic’s choices (Vellupilay) and papered over his questionable tactics.

This man’s ego far exceeded his ability and this World Cup has shown that. The FFA were way too excited when extending his contract after the Turkey match and if they waited another game, they would have seen Turkey were in shambles and Popovic is lost and doesn’t realise it.

2nd half in a knockout game and our wing backs are Trewin and Behich. So much wrong with it. Behich tried his best but he's not dangerous.

Irvine talking about “them” when referencing future of NT. Sounds like he’s retiring from international football.
If Jackson Irvine is indeed retiring from international football then it's such a shame that his service time for the Socceroos had to come to an end in the way that it did.

Interesting to look at the Roos coaching team. Popovic had his only success over a decade ago and was fired in Turkey and let go from his last gig at Melbourne Victory. Okon failed dismally at CCM and was fired. Fox has been an undistinguished assistant coach.

Certainly not a selection that says international quality.

I probably would have shifted O'Neill to rwb. He's comfortably quicker than Trewin I think. Bring on Okon-E into midfield and maybe Trewin later into midfield. Or just play Geria.

Even something like that. A better ball player and slight changes to the shape.
