Socceroos vs Canada/USA Oct 25

I have said when he has been good he's been good. It's just it's been rare over the years

His record speaks for itself.

You cannot tell me with a straight face he should have put that pass out for a corner
That record being if you look over the entire career that if a keeper gets more exposed alone the chance of stopping a chance is lower. Then there are numerous examples of good stops too. That's just part of the keeper life. It's a thankless job.

The cross may have looked slow but it's point blank and hindering it was priority. He tried to then keep it in play. The expectation that everything needs be reached or gathered just won't happen.

Seeing the second goal again. The flight of the ball is so far in front. Pause and see how far and high it is away. It's perfect placement. Kudos to the scorer.

For me one CB place is still up for grabs. Burgess is not answer exposed today. Either Souttar comes back in or Matthews. With Ryan there we look a lot more panicky in the back 4. Izzo for me.

bit of a different approach today, don't think Popa understand some players need games together to get more cohesion. I'm sorry but daggers and boyle are done at this level. I feel like Martin has lost alot of pace and as a winger that make its very tough.

Burgess not really used to having to cover so much ground he looks pretty knackered at the end. Might of been a chance to get a look at Matthews.

Nothing learned and ranking points lost.
well surely, he learnt 3/4 players we've mentioned should be rested let alone not picked again.
The faster wide open play, back inside by USA really split us.
Geria was a goner from the 1st half - Burgess lacks at this level against one like the USA a good opponent, at the WC against better NT's he'll be shown even more.
Maybe Irvine's presence is missing playing deep and covering ?

Fouls 16 to 10 ! only.

at the end of the day, you could put the farm on Popa is going with Izzo over Ryan at next WC

We did well to escape these 2 games only conceeding 2 goals.

Didnt see a way back once fell behind, Poppa ball obviously not suited to having to chase goals.

Potentially that's the challenge when a keeper has the entire goal to cover like that. There are so many places the striker can choose from. Just like tennis you've got to make your choice and a class placement won't be stopped. All of Izzo's saves were in his reach. The shots tonight would require arms that humans don't have. Get a ruler out and it's way away.
Yes it’s a challenge to cover the whole goal. I’ve watched the replay closely a few times. Ryan was in good position and was set well. The shot, while reasonably well placed, wasn’t hit hard and was a good height for a keeper to get to. Ryan had plenty of time to see the shot, he had not committed himself to go one way or the other, or committed to a ground shot.

But Ryan has this unfortunate tendency to not be explosive and dive at times. He tends to stand and fall sideways. He has conceded quite a few goals like this over the years, haven’t seen one for a while but it happened today.

The law of averages come up today. A normally tight defence suddenly much more open and usually reliable players susceptible to error. Burgess has been a rock more often than a liaiblity. Back 3 has to be Circati, Souttar and Burgess.

He's got to jump and try, sure. There is one moment of the flight of the ball at the start of the shot and then it passes reasonably far away. A very nicely taken shot by the scorer. We'll see many of those next weekend too.

Ryan is more of a low ground keeper. He's certainly had his high stops too. You've got to wonder what coaching has happened over the years that he'll prefer to anticipate low shots. He's worked with a lot of good keeper coaches and wonder what they've all wanted to work on.

I really don't understand Poppa not giving Segecic runs, I mean come on we all can see he could develop into a key young NT player and now is the time to start blooding him more..
Yet he wastes time with players we've mentioned - weird as KW posted.

Goodwin will fit when in need as long as he's fit.
I think he considers their ages.

Players like Segecic have many years to be in the team but he tests out the old stagers who don't need to be taught his system to see if they have another game or two in them.
