Socceroos vs Canada/USA Oct 25

at the end of the day, you could put the farm on Popa is going with Izzo over Ryan at next WC
Gauci didn't do anything wrong and got switched out. Izzo has been embellished by poor shooting and more protective defending. I wish them all well but they're going to be sprayed at the world cup if they're not careful.

Audio loop? Occasionally. The Canada replay has the audio 5 seconds ahead.
Tuens out it was something on my own computer - it kept happening 10-15 mins after I switched the post-game off. Not sure what it was, but it's stopped now lol

When Luna ran into the central corridor, twice their central forward ran across our central defender and dragged him out of the way.

With no-one taking responsibility for Luna's run it left him dead centre at the top of the box unmarked.

Really very clever and well executed team play.

Saw an equally well combined attack by Canada off a free kick. Every Canadian player ran at the same moment across and in front of their marker. Every one of them got in front and wherever the ball was going they had first chance at it.

With the need for Popa to find out who can do what against decent opposition and the rotation/selection of different players every game, we have not had the chance to develop the cohesion that could make the difference in tough games.

For Bos's goal, I thought it took two touches off US players - so he did brilliantly to score but it should have been negated twice. Luck plays such an important role - like how lucky was the US to have Metcalfe alone when he received that pass.

The escalation of fouls by the US as the game wore on should have seen cards flying as the game wore down. When Bos got smashed, his opponent went to ground holding his shin, grabbed his side, then seemed to lie like he had taken a head knock. My first impression was he had simply smashed into Bos to reduce his effectiveness and did the usual "I have hurt myself too" to cover it. Maybe I am being ungenerous.

We had chances that we did not take, as did the US. Toure has to be fed to be effective, where Irankunda just needs the ball. In the dying stages of the game we really did nothing with the ball constructively. And that despite some excellent combinations and attacking raids in the second half.

Duke slowly jogging towards their keeper when he was waiting to be approached before picking up the ball was mindless. You can't be tired so rush and get the ball back in play when we're a goal down.

The team seemed to have an oddly unSocceroos mindset in those last minutes - unfocussed and lacking desire.

A good hit out and despite the disappointment it showed some positives and highlighted some weaknesses for us again.

Ohhhhhh it was the Live Scores website I had following the CONCACAF qualifiers! it did a whistle at Full and Half Time of a match, and a cheer when someone scored

What the actual fuck was that? I didn’t watch cause I’m on holiday in New Caledonia but fuck me. Really woulda won with Sega and Nestor and literally any good player we have against a shitty USA team. Now we have to deal with these fake ass fans for the next ages.

Who do you think is a realistic option?
All those currently in the squad or thereabouts are ahead of him imo. In fact, I'd also put Nisbet ahead of him, and I don't think Nisbet is suited to international football.

Geria has had a poor first touch under no pressure a couple of times, that has put us under pressure. I thought Circatti could have intercepted that pass through to Wright when they scored, but maybe he was wrong-footed.

Boyle is a useless in these sort of games where we play so deep (which is probably all our games). He very rarely gets the ball, and on the rare occasion he does get it he is incapable of holding it.
It is very painful to watch Boyle and Geria in this game

That's all correct but only for footballing challenges which a holding foul isn't so a YC could have been given there.

Lol. It's a hard sell trying to explain all that in a game on the run.
Here is the relevant part from Law 12.

Advantage
If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/
sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/
sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play. However, if the
offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity,
the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; if the offence was interfering
with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned.

So in this case the referee was correct not to issue a yellow card, as he played advantage when the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack.

Yes, but that only relates to 'legitimate' challenges on the ball.

Holding offenses (or essentially anything using the arms) wouldn't be part of that.

Don't think so. Nowhere in LOTG does it separate "denying a positive attack" into those committed with with footballing or non-footballing challenges (or more specifically as per LOTG a genuine attempt, or not, to play the ball) except those that happen in the penalty area and a penalty kick is given. I'm not a referee, but I think I have a good grasp on LOTG. Happy to be proven wrong though with respect to this one.

"Stopping a promising attack" is essentially the downgrade from DOGSO - punishable by a yellow card. This was the direction passed down to referees - so the downgrading from a yellow to just a foul follows the same process.

Even though he was one of our best last time he played?
