Doesn't that usually mean that the defence was crap
One would think so, but in a lot of the Popa games, the other team gets plenty of snapshots, but there are often Socceroo defenders in between them and the goal when they shoot.
Whereas we appear to get less chances, but they are often with less opposition defenders in between the goal and the Aus shooter, or none at all.
Popa's priority is keeping the 4 in the midfield line and the 3 in the defensive line, in the 3-4-3 - or the 2 (5-2-3) to 4 in the midfield line, and the 5 at the back in the 5-4-1, compact at all times in Ball Possession Opposition.
Aus rarely has to turn around and chase running towards their own defensive goal.
I'm fed up of watching Aus play less time with the ball, but love Popa's results!
I'm at the 12 min mark of the replay compiling stats, and it never looks as bad on the replay as what I think watching live.
A lot of the good things Aus are doing are harder to see live - like Bos's spectacular runs being easy to appreciate, or Iran's shooting and dribbling.
At the 12 min mark, Canada have had quite a few fast ball carrying actions where they've had a player running with the ball for 15 metres or more. It looked great live, but Aus winning more 1v1s is harder to see live.
I've seen Grazor ask experienced refs like Nic Car Bel or Muz what they thought of the refereeing? I'd love to know too? I thought Canada should have been penalised for starting all the niggle.
