Better than some of Popa's pick off non-existent form

You’re not wrong.. but there is a case where Popa has his hands tied behind his back with how late the A-League season starts, and the pool of players to pick from…

Guys like Arzani, Matthews, Daggers perhaps shouldn’t be there based off of form. But at least they’ve played this season.

If Izzo is part of the actual WC squad, he could be handy to sub on in the event of a penalty shoot out. Stephen Hall should come under strong consideration also, but will be more likely be involved in next WC cycle dependent on club involvement and form.

Why would you consider Izzo for a penalty shootout. Izzo's experience in penalty saves is against lower lever less skilful strikers that convert less than higher leagues. When Redmayne replaced Ryan in the shootout he had saved less at lower leagues than either Ryan or Vukovic. He only had his gimmick. Ryan is the better keeper and the better penalty saver against high quality opposition.

So who misses out if McGree and Souttar were both fit
Geria, Matthews or Rowles for Souttar, maybe Degenek.

For McGree take out Hrustic, Arzani or D'Agostino and do a bit of shifting in other areas. It's very tight.

incredibly you can only have 4 inside forwards out of
Mcree, Metcalf, Volpato, goodwin, vellupilay, segacic, irankunda, boyle

I think irankunda, mcgree, metcalf and volpato make the final 4 if all available

If souttar back you have 4 spots for 2 cbs and 2 rcbs out of

Souttar, Degenek, Matthews, Circati, Geria

will choose the player with the most game time closer to the event out of Geria and Matthews?

For world cup preparation, Matthews out for Souttar. Matthews for next cycle
McGree in, Hrustic out

I would add Luongo in Yazback out

Arzani has played a total of 18 mins since he arrived at the club & Matthews has played 38 mins in total this season. Daggers has only come back from long term injury & not getting many mins. I have always liked Arzani, but there's no way he should be picked at the moment ahead of Segacic, who's already scored 3 goals in the Championship this season. I also think that Jack Iredale should've been given a chance ahead of Matthews at this stage & Sapsford over Daggers

I think Metcalfe is a lock because of his versatility. McGree has a decent amount of that too. Geria should be first choose RWB and his CB capabilities help his case. Miller is developing this too now.

I'm glad Matthews is like by Popovic but this is seemingly early and he's just not playing enough. Definitely thendnxt cycle is his time. We'll have to look at the trimming and adding to the squad to try and get the absolute best 26.

I agree with you on all of that!

This isn’t the first time nor will it be the last time that popa has included blokes not getting many minutes.

My main gripe lies with the Robertson inclusion… That’s all.

Selected based on form from two years ago?

Good to see he’s committed to Australia (for now) but dont see how he has warranted a call-up.

If this were any other serious football nation would they select a player just coming back from injury who still hasn’t seen minutes?
Selection based on last season, but let's be real half the team is usually selection based on form from two years ago, we don't exactly have 25 players playing in good form week in and week out in Europe. Robertson differentiates himself from the others though as his pedigree when he is in-form would actually translate to our team and is a positive player.

One other thing to keep in mind is they are friendlies. Which for us is actually unusual given how qualifying has gone the last few campaigns. So I think he has a bit more leeway to pick a few guys just to get them in for a look, even if they haven't played much.

Yep agree.

You can't imagine Cardiff even agreeing to let him go with the NT when he hasn't even returned from injury, unless it's promised as training only and no minutes.

If this means Robbo becomes a lock for us and he could be in form and firing come next June...fucking fantastic.
