Soccer Ashes thread

Media increasingly only mentions the codes with whom they have massive deals. They have themselves become part of the code wars.

If something isn't mentioned in the MSM then it didn't happen.

Yes, this the reality. No point denying it. It is the reason that the A League would be better off, with less money, with Stan, because that means it is in their interests to promote the comp in the SMH, Age etc.

Signing with Ten guarantees invisibility.

Have you erased the Bahrain game last September from your memory?
I went to that game & the reason why it was disjointed was due to the Bahrain players rolling on the ground every 5 seconds and the Ref was appalling. One of the worst games I've watched at any level. Wasn't Arnie's fault we lost that game

Doubly so with the way they're promoting EPL too

Hmm! Smaller broadcast deal for APL and bigger subscription fee for fans. 👎

The Bahrain game was a stain on the fabric of our game.Disjointed Socceroos performance and complete anti-football by Bahrain and their tactics as Alex M has pointed out.

I mostly watch Ch9 news and they had nothing about the build up to the NZ game but did show some footage of the goal etc after the game, it was the last sports news story of course.

No it was the players fault. They lost their cool and started rushing over every time a Bahraini player went down. It's no coincidence that the goal came when the ref ignored a Bahraini player rolling on the ground and we didn't. You would think our players had never seen a team try to waste time before.

Haven’t had a look at a replay yet - putting off onerous stat compilation via replay - which is very satisfying once completed, Grazor.

Even Circati was beaten all ends up against Japan B on just 1 occasion.

Didn’t notice Hrustic’s specific mistakes, but he usually makes a few. I know his game better than many of the newbies. I’ll no doubt see plenty on replay. Wish Silvera had been tried in his position.
Silvera is playing wing back at club level. Would love to see poppa persist with him there with a better support at inside forward replacing hrustic

I agree I saw enough from what we have to remember is a VERY raw wing back...let alone a RWB.
He seemed to easily have the speed and tank to get up and back in a way more positive way than Miller does.
I think he took up more than good enough defensive positions and yes Miller obviously has defensive attributes that Silvera doesn't have yet, but I think if he can play on both flanks and keep getting minutes in those positions for Boro...becomes a pretty attractive option. Especially when it looks like our wingbacks are the players with the most attacking licence in this redic system.

Looooong season though.

NZ studied what Australia don't like, pressing. Japan did it and we just can't handle anything with the ball.

Remember Germany 2017? They just kept coming up and we couldn't cope. There's that and then there's the opponent sitting back where we don't really know what to do. Naturally we look best against a naive opponent like China or Indonesia who just can't get their line height or spaces right.

The North American friendlies might just be the ideal balance where we can see something that resembles an even match.

3-1 NZ, playing a 3-5-2 will nullify the Socceroo's midfield once again and put that extra man up front to blast past the Socceroo's goal, 3 at the back is ok since Australia has no real attack and the wingers can drift back to block anything the Socceroo's throw forward. Expecting Rogerson to be linked up with Woods up front. This will pretty much guaranty goals.

Yeah because your predictions for Canberra really came to fruition. Give it up.

If u put an extra man up you sacrifice a number elsewhere and probably losing the possession battle

We fams hate it but poppa seems to love being pressed!

NZ dominated that match in Canberra and if it wasn't for a fluke goal and some fluke goal saving the All Whites would have walked it home and that's facts.
The better team lost but that's football for you. It happens but in the return leg I'm expecting a master class from the All Whites and dick the Socceroo's to claim the Ashes.

NZ did nothing with the ball. The saves were good but also within the keepers reach.

Australia's goal wasn't a fluke because in a millisecond he turned and slotted it where it was unreachable.

Also go back to his predictions for us to be smashed by Saudi, indo, and to be playing the next round of qualifiers now.
Gotta be right eventually though I guess.
