I wonder if there will ever be a world where the two sports rejoin.

Side note - did we ever get that League v Union match that was talked about for years that was apparently going to happen about 5-10 years ago?

Probably didn't get it because the Hun and Terrorgraoh posted their annual 'if AFL players played soccer 11'.
 
The Rugby League World Cup isn't really a World Cup per se....

It's more a cup for the rather narrow Rugby League world.....

Only 3 teams/countries: Australia, Great Britain, and New Zealand have won it. And out of 16 tournamentd Australia hss won 12.

Rugby League's strength isn't it's international-isation. Although to be fair the tournament has expanded and there are more competitive nations than there used to be.

But generally speaking the sport lives and dies by the quality of its two professional club competitions more than by how many countries it can find who can field a decent national team.

The biggest difference is one went to private school while the other went to public school.

and for many years now the good ol tradie public school ones make as much $'s as the so called snobby educated ones :)

Where to start...different number of players, positions. The pace is vastly different. One relies on kicking more than the other. Rucks, play the ball, line outs, scrums, offside distances, tackling rules and intensity.

If the Greeks played it you'd be calling it the best thing since Ouzo. Didn't Greece have a team at a world cup one? League certainly bigger than Union there I think.

I think they tightened their eligibility rules but it's a joke how one can play for Tonga in a series then go back to NZ. If the talent were spread across the Pacific nations, South Africa and France work hard to get some Union discards, Ireland, Scotland and even Argentina, it'd be more balanced.

The gulf in class between Australia and NZ to England is large enough.
