Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Will do my best to get down as a neutral to support the game, the Comp and traditional clubs. Marconi v Heidelberg at the Marconi club Friday night, Sydney Olympic v south Melbourne on Saturday at Kogarah I believe. Good weekend lined up all going well.

Pretty easy to get to Kogarah, there’s a train station nearby etc hopefully better weather that weekend than what we’ve been having lately ffs
How far roughly from the CBD and is it walkable from the closest station?

Yea it’s easily walkable, that’s usually how I get there. Maybe 5 minutes walk down hill.
It’s about 15k from the city, similar sort of distance as an Oakleigh or something, similar looking areas to be honest. Not sure if I’ve ever said it on here before but theres also a nice old school family run Greek pastry/cake shop in between the ground and the station which I’m sure would appreciate some patronage haha.

An odd question just popped into my head the other day for no obvious reason.

Who is considered your greatest manager? I know Ange won twice, chatgpt told me Ange. Is that the case or are there others? Thanks

Its Ange, and his era coaching South was arguably the clubs strongest in general, success, crowds etc.
@Cunningstunt Ange nudges him for me also and his era was uniquely special, but Puskas a close second off aura alone and managing that famous NSL Championship in 1990-91, two Dockerty Cups and an NSL Cup.
Our coach of the century was Poulikakos though and despite not living his eras personally those that did define him as a unique football coaching brain!

I'd have Puskas a close 2nd as well, his stint is where my love of the club as a child started, middle park will always be my favourite ground as well.

Just think the club went to another level under Ange, lakeside was rocking every home game.

I must be slightly older than you... Middle Park is the correct answer on any question regarding love and loyalty... watching snippets of how run down and pokey it really was in the Puskas documentary filled me with such a nostalgic sadness... its was Wembley to us as kids...

There’s a few across the road from the nearest station. Ironically the station is called “Carlton”
Your a champion..... despite the fact that this Championship isnt what we all dreamed off 2-3 years ago, it will have to do for now and Im pleased that so many of us are getting excited about the whole thing..... October can't come soon enough.

Gotta keep pushing, keep the pressure up from both sides of the border. These are the sorts of matches we all want more of, gotta support them. The numbers are all the powers that be care about

100% Gotta keep making as much noise as possible until the dull roar can no longer be ignored and full pyramid from top to bottom is the inevitable conclusion.. The "usual suspects" effnikz clubs are starting to chatter which is great, if not expected, but I would really love to see the less storied clubs (no disrespect intended at all) start making a bit of noise leading up to October....
