Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

In all of this madness, we have a match on Sunday against Dandenong Thunder. Nothing less than 3 points against a team that has lost 17 players. This match needs to be viewed as racking up a big scoreline to finally get our goal difference back into positive territory.

The positive thing is that Preston faces Avondale and Oakleigh face George Cross. I hate to say it, but we need Avondale and Oakleigh to win to help us get back into the top 6. Given the amount of points we have dropped this year, I just cant see us finishing no higher than 5th. That means all our finals matches will be played away from home. The only positive is that the grand final will be held at Lakeside.

Depending on how results play out this round, we could move to as high as 5th on the ladder.

Before we get ahead of ourselves of potentially making finals, lets first defeat Dandenong Thunder.

Bonada is a good bloke (was awesome with the supporters and kids) but clearly quite hot tempered and passionate - can see him being quite volatile and difficult to deal with when things went wrong

He also comes from a very poor background in Argentina so not surprising he’s very money hungry

Shame we couldn’t get him to Brunswick but it is what it is
Why is everyone here wishing he went to Juve? I dont get it?

Bonada will never play for us again so the loan deal hints that we were just as desperate to offload him on the final day as what Preston were to get someone in.

Eggs on our faces now that we know Preston didnt pay a transfer. Its a free hit to take a look at him for 6 months, if hes a hit they make it permanent on a free transfer, if hes shit they just dump him.

Ridiculous that we couldnt engineer a transfer with juve who are willing to pay transfer fees.

I think the club wanted to loan most of these players out and Sam Poutakidis had mentioned it on 3xy but it looks like we pissed the youngsters off and they all wanted to outright leave.
What was the point of playing the youth players for so many matches to then just release them in early July? It doesn't make sense. If a youth player is offered a contract by another club to play senior football - then no issue and best of luck to the kid. But the way we've done it is very peculiar. It poses questions around our strategy to develop youth players to make it to the senior team.

I'd be curious to know if the shoe was on the other foot, how Preston would react. They would never have done that.

Bonada would have gone to Brunswick Juventus if Preston had signed a striker. Preston had too many midfielders but no strikers.

Lot of assumptions there... rumour or fact?

From what I hear... the only strategy is for envelopes to find the right pockets.

Exactly right, hence not sure what all the anxiety is about... Its a desperation last minute bargain buy from Preston and are we sure money didnt change hands somewhere as a few people now are saying it did?.

Zoki doesn't set up with a harrying striker like Bonada and will struggle to fit him in to the system I predict. Either way what do WE have to fear, a player who was starting to get disruptive to the squad is now out on loan, we dont have to meet his pay expectations and if we want him back we can decide in December.. I see it as win win.

Hope you dont mind me opening up a can of worms !

But how is Bul able to play for South Melbourne ? He has played for two clubs already this registration window. This will be the third and I was under the impression you could only play for a maximum of two clubs ?
