Australia cup is difficult, you need a good draw imo. I think we can beat anyone at Lakeside. Heidelberg stayed at home for its entire campaign last season and that was a big factor in how far they werent.
Totally agree. To win the Australia Cup would require lots of luck, favourable draw, and overcoming some biased officiating. But you know what - lets go for it. Lets turn things upside down and shine a light on what we can offer Australian football. We literally have nothing to lose.

Mind you, if we are going to have a tilt at the Australia Cup, we will need mid-season transfers to strengthen the squad. Two new strikers, and another attacking player to really give us depth.
I would argue atleast 1 key central defender also.. that wouldve been the magic 4 that wouldve made this double comp thing easy, while allowing us a run into cups and transition to championship smoothly.

Totally agree. Another quality defender would have been most welcome to balance the various competitions. Will form part of the learnings from the initial year of doing this.

Stay tuned. Especially if we can get some of this sweet OFC money next month, June will be like Christmas...

Massive 4-5 weeks coming up for the club. Below are the known fixtures as of today. They exclude the OFC Pro League semi finals and grand final, as well as a possible Dockerty Cup match too.

As has been mentioned before, the matches against St Albans and Melbourne City Youth are MUST win and a minimum of 6 points are required. The match against Hume at the end of May is a dangerous one given players may be fully expended after a possible semi final and grand final appearance. Hume wont be easy either.

The grand final is on the 24th and we play Hume on the 30th, even if we make it its still a week between games. If we've lost 3 npl games in a row as you'd expect we will have to go in full strength against Hume.

The only way you can feel comfortable about May is if we beat st albans and melb city. Team is under a lot of pressure before they head to Auckland.

Your assuming that the whole squad is going to be stuck in NZ?
I reckon the Avondale game will be the only sketchy one...

You only need 18-20 players in Auckland. No point flying over players who may not feature or play little match time.

I would take the following players to Auckland in May
Lopez
Lampard
Painter-Andrews
Jankovic
Eliopoulos
Coveny
Inglese
Pasquali
Giannakopoulos
Leech
Menelaou
Mikkola
Uchida
Swibel
Bonada
Cocks
Mesorouni

I would leave the following players in Melbourne for the month of May:
Shalamanov-Trenkov
Singh
Lackay
Dovison
Papadimitriou
Pope

Those players can be supplemented with the existing youth players that stepped up (and other players from U20s/U23s):
Saristavros
Angelatos A
Angelatos G
O'Sullivan
Durso
Van Riet
Skapoulas

I reckon a good core will fly back after the Auckland game and then return for Bula...
I highly doubt it. I can foresee the club focusing purely on OFC Pro League.

The club needs to leave behind 3-4 reserve players back in Melbourne that would not likely feature in the finals in Auckland.

It would be interesting to see whether South could request from Football Victoria to postpone either the Heidelberg or George Cross match. Would be difficult to postpone the Avondale match given there are no guarantees in making the grand final.

But why spend all those "empty" days in NZ when it is only 3 hours away?
