Coveny didnt fill me with confidence thats for sure... Cocks way too much overkill wiyh the same repetitive move.. as for the 2 up front, god help us from 1st impressions.
Coveny is young and will develop touch, he is strong and fast I think he will come good. Cocks is a one trick pony I agree but that trick is very good, he can beat his man on teh right and whip a ball in... The other two Swibel and the NZ kid who (I am so embarrassed, we couldn't even get our act together and put his name on the jersey) didnt have time to show much but at least the made more movement and got more touches than Bonada... and I LOVE Banada... Sisi can't seem to find a place for him in the buildup.... all the balls into the box look for Yuki...

Solomon Kings at 5pm. Preston at 8pm..

Don't understand why we agreed to play this fixture against Preston when we are currently in Auckland for the opening matches of the OFC Pro League.

The first two hubs of the OFC Pro League will replace the need to play preseason friendlies. This match against Preston will largely be made up of U20s/18s youth players.

Not a bad thing to give a few u18s a taste of senior football.

Aside from the move we spoke about, Eliopoulos in and TG pushed further up, that was pretty much our strongest team and we struggled. Its going to be a headache when the npl starts. Our fortunes are going to depend on whether we can bring 2-3 more quality players that are at the same standard of those who left.

Lets be real, its really Manny and Lavale that we need to replace and if indeed Manny is coming back then things begin to look rosy again...

I think we struggled yesterday because we went into the game with quite bit of complacency. Tahiti were no pushovers despite what we expected.. Compact at the back, un-rushed to get the ball out either. I cant think of a time in the first half where we broke the lines in a meaningful position, it was always pushed out wide... did we even get a fair shot on target first half? All these jinky little balls over the top to Yuki and long throws...

Im not worried about the OCL at all, the NZ clubs will give us a run for our money but the others are , as you say, State 1 level at best... was long as we make a final or semi thats enough for me... its the NPL Im worried about too... This season isnt going to be a joke... When does the cutoff for signings end and do we have enough room on squad list?

Agree - we looked structurally much better when Giannakopoulos moved up to midfield and Coveny played CB.

We are short of at least 2 quality players. If Aguek does return from Thailand, then that alleviates the problem upfront. We need a quality winger that will bang in 5-8 goals as well.

For me players like Cocks, Singh, and Swibel are bench/squad players.

Cocks beat his man 3-4 times and got in behind, with pace, quite a few times... AT NPL level he will be a handful.

Swibel and Singh we saw for 15 mins..... Manny took 4-5 matches to settle as a starter and Lavale was awful the first match he played...

Lets give them a chance I say...

@Monoethnic Social Club i think SMFC1959 is right on the money... happy to give them some time but they dont give me the confidence of others at first glance!

Eh, lets hope Manny rumour is true and he comes back then, on transfermarket it looks like he is ineligible to play in Thailand until June.... the day his contract expires?

Sunday's match was a classic first serious hit out for the team. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt if players were rusty and nervous given the occasion.

For Wednesday's match against Solomon Kings, I agree with @southmelb that either Eliopoulos/Coveny start as CB along with Jankovic, and push Giannakopoulos to the holding midfeld. Let's see what Swibel can offer. He's the target man that will need to score 10-15 goals.

So we assume the Soloman kings will be stronger than what we faced yesterday? Coached by Ben Cahn as well.
