@Glenardo have you heard much about what’s happening at Marconi? I’m hearing big budget cuts. Could be another Sydney Olympic.
Just what’s been reported here my friend. If the numbers that have been thrown around on here are accurate the new budget would be more in line with the likes of Sydney united etc

What are you hearing?

@Glenardo have you heard much about what’s happening at Marconi? I’m hearing big budget cuts. Could be another Sydney Olympic.

i heard that two weeks ago.

Club Marconi (current board) doesnt want to fund them the way they do anymore. One of the biggest budgets in the league, it's why Tseka & flea have left, money is drying up and expect 6-8 players to leave as well.

They want to go with a more "youthful" approach, as it was said, "this current state, it's a waste of money"

You'd think they'd learn from their previous relegation, but i believe this will not be Olympic 2.0 and they will still be competitve.

Again, you wonder how the highly secretive behind the scenes discussions re aus championship relate to these sorts of budgetary decisions. What do they know or not know vs what’s public etc

You also wonder what potential role the likes of a nick carle might have in a more youth driven approach. If done properly it can be fine, you just need a solid core to build a young talented team around. As you say, you’d hope lessons have been learned. And to be fair, there hasn’t exactly been a great return in terms of silverware for the financial outlay thats been made. Could argue Sydney united have won more with a smaller budget

As much as I often defend Olympic and call for balance in critiques of them, Marconi’s foundations as a club are much more solid than Olympics are.

Again, you just hope this is managed well. for all the constant complaints about how the game and clubs are run i this country, I’ve been the first to say that imo Marconi has been run well in recent times re improvements in marketing, branding, an increased emphasis in honouring history, investment in facilities etc may that continue

Not NPL - but should be

Update on Yoogali SC this year

Weren't allowed directly into Wagga comp, so all the players and coach registered with the one Griffith team in the comp who would take them.

Two games to go - unfortunately Hanwood fell off a cliff mid-season, would have been a juicy finals series with them involved too.

Interestingly their 2 losses this year (Rounds 1 and 10) came both at the hands of Henwood Park - my understanding is that's where the bulk of Wagga City Wanderer's CPL team from 2025 headed to.

WTF is going on in South Wagga?

Yeh, I've heard the same. Nick Carle is a good operator so I'm sure it will be better than the Olympic fiasco this year.

I've been hearing the Aus Championship from one source at SO that it is going home and away in 2027 (in line with NPL season). I haven't heard the rumour from anyone else though.

Thats 6 months to set up a national h and a league?? Hmm that sounds like a wish rather than a rumour to me.

FNSW are fining Rockdale ilinden $8000 for the 2024 u20s grand final

Our coach reportedly told FNSW officials “it’s a Joke to play the final at empty Valentine on a Sunday night instead of being before the men’s game”

And there was unauthorised family, spectators on the pitch and change rooms after the game

This organisation is ran by money hungry criminals they can get fkd

Does anyone know what the cut off is for travel time before a team has to stay overnight before the match?

AI tells me that two hour flights is a common cut off, but in Australia we have teams in the NRL and NPL doing three to four hour road trips and playing the same day. Even Mount Gambier played same day after a five hour trip to Adelaide.

I'm thinking about the Championship and how to keep costs down, and travel is the biggest killer. One thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere but could be an interesting point is that by professionalising the NST we can open the travel calendar to cheaper and more flexible flights and accommodation, instead of working around the bricklayers work schedule 😅
