NPL 2026

correct it was all about getting the youth more games and more football in this country.

That also came with the rules you need certain number of players that are under 21s or something in your match day lineup.
yea I do remember this discussion happening at the time now

So Sydney Olympic rooted to the bottom of the NPL1 table in relegation zone with two games to go. They have Marconi and Sydney FC at home.

When they go down, and they will, this will be their Marconi-esque relegation moment.
Both St George and Sydney Olympic deserve to go down after this season. So poor. Olympic literally took the piss in the first 20 rounds with the squad they signed.

Or Melbourne knights give a more recent example or Preston for that matter.

As has been said previously, Olympic’s lack of a solid home base/assets to fall back on complicates things. Doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Have said before that I’m not prepared to write them off as a club yet, have been following the game at this level long enough to know that clubs can turn things around and come back stronger even when it doesn’t seem likely when they’re at their lowest ebb.

Heidelberg have been relegated and been in shambles unable to field junior teams and not able to pay players multiple times off the top of my head. Preston seemed gone in the third tier and their support whilst passionate had dwindled. Even clubs like George cross to a degree have had a renaissance of sorts etc which many people wouldn’t have picked

Especially since by the way hanlin and the “club” actively made a choice not to prioritise npl in favour of the aus championship. Now obviously the broader fan base aren’t in favour of that decision but they knew what they were doing. It’s not like they went all out to win the title and this is what the end result was, they specifically did it this way to reallocate resources with the idea that they’d eventually go the championship and npl would be a youth team..prematurely obviously

Interesting point made in the npl nsw podcast the other day, would Olympic still play out of belmore if they were in npl 2? And an extension of that, would that potentially force them to be more proactive about securing their own facilities

didn't make it out there on saturday, however from what i heard, it's doom and gloom.
me wonder what has transpired behind the scenes since April AGM.....
  • The AGM Vote: Members voted to vacate the board, led by a push from a steering committee headed by former player Peter Katholos. [1, 2]
  • Constitutional Block: Hanlin—whose financial contributions have kept the club afloat—exercised special benefactor voting rights to nullify the spill. [1, 2]
  • Aftermath & Tensions: The standoff resulted in legal warnings regarding public commentary and deep divisions between traditional supporters and club management.
Has Hanlin knocked them all off ? they have given up I suppose.
Real sad its come this but its been coming for so long as we all have watched for years even before Hanlin.
