NPL 2026

I thought Manos was superb at Croatia some moons ago.

Swibel, seen him through our academy, showing why the whole of this countries football is ‘recycling’.

COPPA ITALIA WA RETURNS THIS WEEK

The Coppa Italia WA makes its long‑awaited return in 2026, bringing together four Italian‑heritage NPLWA clubs — Balcatta Etna, Bayswater City, Fremantle City and Perth Azzurri. The competition begins on Thursday evening, with NPL Champions Bayswater City hosting Perth Azzurri in the opening Semi-Final at Frank Drago Reserve (7:00pm). This marks the first staging of the tournament in almost four decades.

Originally launched in 1982, the Coppa Italia WA was a weekend carnival featuring Italian‑heritage clubs from both the semi‑professional and amateur ranks. East Fremantle Tricolore claimed the inaugural title and repeated the feat the following year, while Bayswater Inter and Perth Azzurri have each lifted the trophy twice. Perth Azzurri were the last winners back in 1987.

Azzurri will field a refreshed squad on Thursday, boosted by several new arrivals. Former Armadale trio Pieter Jacobsz, Amir Ajan and Charlie Fleming have joined the club, along with goalkeeper Liam Driscoll from Green Gully in the Victorian NPL and Sam Pollard from Perth RedStar. Pollard said the match will be valuable for building cohesion. “It’s a good chance for us to get some important minutes into the legs,” he said. “It also gives the new players and the rest of the group an opportunity to get more familiar with each other.”

Bayswater enter the tournament after a standout 2025 campaign, winning the league title and representing WA in the inaugural Australian Championship. Head Coach Matthew Sparrow said the focus is on easing into pre-season rather than chasing results. “The boys have only just returned for their first session and we still have a few unavailable,” he said. “Perth have been back for a couple of months, so they’ll be ahead of us in sharpness and fitness. For us, it’s simply about getting minutes and starting the build-up toward what matters later on.”

The second Semi-Final takes place on Saturday, with Balcatta Etna hosting Fremantle City at the Home Group Stadium, Grindleford Reserve (7:00pm). Both clubs endured difficult 2025 seasons — Balcatta secured safety on the final day at Floreat Athena, while Fremantle survived via the Promotion/Relegation Play-off against Joondalup City. Fremantle assistant coach Dale Wingell said the match is an important step in their preparations. “It’s great to get back into competitive games after the Christmas break,” he said. “Saturday gives us the chance to get valuable minutes into the whole squad, with the main aim being ready for the season proper.”

The winners of each Semi-Final will meet in the Coppa Italia WA Final at Dorrien Gardens next Saturday, with the losing sides playing off for third place on the same evening.

Result :
Perth Azzuri 3:1 Bayswater City Semi Final 1

It feels like it’s gone quick for us get the Aus Championship sides sides

All the non championship sides would want the championship sides nice and early.

non championship sides had a longer time to prepare, and not as fatigued at the championship teams.

Any early predictions for 2026 in NSW & VIC - Top 6 & Relegated?
In Victoria - Preston and Heidelberg are clear favourites.

If South can sort out its goal scoring options, we'll be top 4 as well. Top 2 finish is out of equation due to the overlap with the OFC Professional League. Best we'll do is 3rd.

In terms of Avondale, it depends on how they replace so many departed players. There's been a mass walkout of quality players and coaching staff to Preston.

Recently promoted teams like George Cross and Melbourne City U20 team are likely to get relegated.

NPL who gives a shit.... we won the chanpionship! Hahaha

Add chOakleigh to that mix

Preston, Heidelberg and Oakleigh locks for top 3. South will just be looking to make the top 6 and do damage in finals. Green Gully have recruited well and should make the top 6 after missing out on finals for the last 3 years

Superb in Sydney maybe... is a pretty decent reflex shot stopper but VERY sketchy distribution
