For the away shirts I think green like the kit then a very narrow orange stripe on the side is ok. White socks.

I think the narrow orange stripe on the side of the away shorts will work well because of the contrasting colours, and definitely we should retain white socks for both the home and away strips also.

Our goal music against the USA has to be the Bunnings tune! In Qatar we had down under and baby I've got you on my mind by Powderfinger. Hearing the latter blaring after Duke scored was awesome.

This current kit must be the shortest we've had then. The 2018 qualifying kit at least got a whole cycle.

I would say the 2001 kit would take that cake.
Essentially the 2001 kit had two variations - one that was used for the Oceania qualifying portion (below) and was introduced for the friendly against Colombia in late February 2001.



Then a second with the adidas stripes moved from the chest, to its normal position. The change happened after the qualifying tournament in Coffs Harbour (April 2001) and the Confederations Cup that began in late May.



This second kit was replaced in 2002 for the OFC Nations Cup, so was last used in Montevideo in November 2001.

Yep, I only realised after 2005/2006 when I became a bit of a kit nerd and would draw in class to cure boredom and stop being fidgety in class so drew a big Socceroos History pack.

The other turbulent era would be that 2004/2005 period when first changing to Nike, where we essentially rotated through 5 kits (2 home, 2 away, and 1 temporary).

First we wore this temporary navy kit - which was just a template (and very reminiscent of Nerds FC) against South Africa in a friendly in 2004. This was just days/weeks after the change to Nike was announced, so nothing was ready.

Following that, and in time for the Olympics, these became the home and away jerseys - with Green still the home colour




Before the final friendly of 2004 against Norway, a decision was made to swap to gold for home, and green away, so this was introduced temporarily:

In early 2005, we had some friendlies with South Africa (February), and hosted Iraq and Indonesia in March. With some tweaks made later on to what we all love and know, with an away kit introduced in a deeper green than the original Nike home shirt. These were definitely in place for the Iraq/Indonesia matches, but not 100% on the South Africa match.

There is some available at this website - https://www.u8au.com/product-page/clearance-football-jersey - they aren’t perfect recreations, but they did the job for me.
At points They have had recreations of 1993 home and away, 1994 home, 1996 olyroos, 1998 home, and 2002 home (also 2002 New Zealand)


The two holy grails for me that I’ve been looking forever for actual versions of are the 2005 home (the final Total 90), and personally either of the 1997 ones

FIFA allowed us to honour our deal with Umbro, whilst also making us stick to their deal with Adidas for the tournament, so we got Adidas jerseys, with an Umbro logo slapped on the front

Remember that white one on FIFA 2005 scoring free kicks with Bresciano. That game would've been the September 2004 release though so it wasn't the season we qualified for the world cup.

Really fond of the white one and the green back in the day with memories of Kewell and Viduka.

Yep FIFA 2005 has the green and white, whereas FIFA 06 has the gold and green. Have recently re-bought these as I prep for my World Cup playthroughs hahahaha (1998 World Cup tournament coming up shortly), as until the 2006, 2010 and 2014 world cups, I’m using the standard FIFA games for confederations cups/friendlies etc

You can’t have white socks for both home and away. Or the same coloured shorts for that matter. The whole idea behind the away (or alternate) kit is that it is different to the main kit, so that you have alternatives when there is a clash with the opponents kit.

I mean.. they can still use the white socks as the primary for the away. Just need to have an alternative for when they inevitably clash with someone else

I believe so, either they were made by adidas, or had to be unbranded. For some reason, Australia were the only to have this little quirk.

Example, Italy were unbranded for the playing uniforms themselves, but the anthem jackets, etc were Adidas from what it seems

At the time Umbro, who supplied Australia’s playing kit, had a distribution deal with Adidas, who supplied boots and balls but now had branched out into textiles. The German company had signed a yugoslavia world cup 1974 kopa shirtsponsorship deal with FIFA to underwrite the costs of the 1974 World Cup and would use the exposure to launch their new range of playing kit with the now iconic three-stripe trim. Because of the close relationship between the two companies, Australia’s kit was provided by Adidas and carried Umbro branding.

Yeah agree, white shorts dusky green socks would be the best choice... ANYTHINB but the salmon colour on either shorts or socks though that would ruin it for me.

My recollection is that Scotland wore Umbro branded kit in 1974 WC. And Italy always wore unbranded kit until at least sometime in the 90’s.

Edit. Just looked up and found that Italy were unbranded for such a long time because the Italian federation did not permit branding on the playing kit.

I believe you’re correct with Scotland there - I’d assume they’d have been given the same leniency as Australia (but the leniency would have been for Umbro specifically)

I'd call it ochre. More red than pink. I like it but more of it would be too much unless it was minor detailing.

They re-released these in 2006.

I have one. You occasionaly get a ccokhead selling them on ebay as originals.
