I'll bite.As the title says.
To kick it off. How's that UnitedHealthCare CEO getting assassinated? I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
Probably million people with a motive on this one.
At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th kidnappings (and murders) of the well to do was much more common. Indeed it went all the way into the 1970s by which time it was a rarity. I don't recall any since the 80s until last year. So the question is a valid one. Why did it stop and is it the beginning of a trend?
I tend to measure the safety of a country (or city) by noting as to how often locals travel down dim or dark lanes, whether the middle classes live in fortresses or not and people who use public transport. So travelling through South America you will find gated compounds with well armed security personnel. Only average or below average income use public transport. At the other end, in Japan the only compound I saw was the Imperial Palace, everyone used PT (including my CEO).
In Australia, even Malcolm Turnbull uses PT. Of course, the USA is teh USA.
