Could do that in local first grade for us. We had a 5 on the bench, 6 interchange sub rule. I think they've changed it now, because I usually see more named.

If that ball first was headed off the Croatia player and then came off the Portugal player then went to the Croatia player who crossed it in wouldn't it be onside ?

I had thought this too when I saw the replays, and was wondering why on earth VAR wasn't showing the rest of the play to show that as well. But then I saw the behind angle, and I think that they eventually got to the right decision.

It would only then put back onside if that touch is:

1. a deliberate play at the ball, AND
2. not a save (eg, blocking a shot)

Once I saw the behind angle, it looks like he is trying to get out of the way, rather than moving towards the ball deliberately.
