FIFA 2026 WC - general

Besides Tuchel complaining. I didn't see many complaints from people online

Has anyone else become a Tuchel fan? Not to do with his managerial skills but for his look his eyes his vibe and his antics someone said he's like a Nosferatu and then he goes nuts in the dressing room with the boys Stones pretending he'd injured his shoulder (this just after Henderson) to freak out the boss who hugged him when he got the joke. He's fully passionate and out there

Rest in peace to Mamelodi Sundowns player Jayden Adams, who has died at the age of 25 after appearing in Bafana Bafana's historic FIFA World Cup run.

Congratulations to Vozinha, who now has a new species of sea snail named after him!

The 40-year-old goalkeeper, who now has over 28.8 million Instagram followers after a stunning World Cup performance with Cape Verde made him go viral in the footballing world and made him a national hero back home, has also been linked with a move to marquee-laden MLS side Inter Miami. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Man United are reportedly linked with 17-year-old wonderkid Gilberto Mora from Tijuana in Liga MX, who starred for Mexico in attacking midfield in the World Cup, held on home soil.

Must be a German coach thing. Klopp is like that as well

A select part of the market won't stop watching and sponsors will be easily replaced by others.

I've found a lot of the recent calls marked as controversial to actually be correct and acceptable.

The world cup has seen a positive influx in business activity in host cities and around the world but once the party is over old problems return.
From what I heard a lot of cities (as in city or county councils) will make substantial losses and will not be putting their hand up again. I suppose it depends on the changes forced on them.

I've seen a number of news reports. Vancouver's hotels had lower bookings year on year. Comments suggest jacking up the price scared people off while a lot of people arrange private accommodation or actually live there. The main entertainment area of Vancouver had a party every day.

Boston seems to have benefited immensely. New Jersey isn't a very nice place and hasn't benefited.

Even outside host cities if there were world cup events on the time to cash in is running out. It's good to see places getting some more action.

Yeah - actually meant the city government themselves - , guaranteeing stadium upgrades, security - high end offices for FIFA, transport and utility upgrades, logistisics around transport. Some other cities refused first up because of the cost.

Ah right and I think that's an important issue where the tax revenue may not offset the upfront cost. The next reports will give an indication of that. Chicago didn't want to pay. I think they may live to regret it. Soldier Field is horrible anyway.

I'm not buying this conspiracy theory fuelled by losing countries that FIFA are "rigging" the comp so that Argentina/Messi get to the final....

They were pushed to the absolute limit and forced into extra time in two consecutive knockout games against lower-ranked opponents....

That's not the hallmark of a smoothly rigged path!

It's a classic coping mechanism from fans of eliminated teams, amplified by social media......

Sour grapes!!

Over the 108 matches so far I reckon I've lost about 3 hours of actual on-field World Cup football viewing time due to Americans' obsession with celebrities
I like to watch games with my kids so I can ask " who's that ? " & then say " fascinating" when they tell me.

I was interested (spelt the same way as pissed off but much more polite) to see the Norwegian goal disallowed because of a two handed shirt front push.

VAR studied it, got the ref to check, and they decided a 2 handed shirt front push was somehow illegal. I totally agree it was a foul in the buildup and the Norwegian goal should have been disallowed.

But strange how the rules changed so much from when Irankunda got the same treatment jumping for the ball in the goal mouth against the US.

It just confirms how biased, and game altering, the officiating can actually be despite 'no conspiracy' viewpoints.

I find it hard to let go of an illegal push, indefensible handball and shirt pull all in the one attacking moment being ignored.

Sometimes bitterness comes from an intentional action by the cook...

As we enter the 2026 FIFA World Cup's end game, on Le Foot this week we look at the life and times of the Frenchman who basically invented sport's greatest tournament.....

Jules Rimet, who's dream of universalism, working-class inclusion, and peace through sport became football’s global empire.
