FIFA 2026 WC - general

South Korea got the job done 1-0 over El Salvador in their second and final pre-World Cup friendly, with Lee Dong-gyeong scoring the only goal of the match in the 57th minute. The result means that South Korea have won both their warm-up matches heading into their World Cup campaign after they previously ran out 5-0 winners over Trinidad and Tobago at the end of last week.

Great that they managed to give a detailed description of every single player! Some good descriptions in there too, for example here's Ale Circati's:

"In the dressing room at Parma several years ago, Circati walked up to goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon – who helped ruin the Socceroos' World Cup dreams in 2006 – seeking advice. The teenager had to choose between Italy, his country of birth, and Australia, where he grew up, over who he would represent at international level. "What do you feel inside? Forget about everything else", Buffon said, according to a Circati interview with ESPN. The young defender chose the Socceroos and has, despite losing most of a year to an ACL injury in 2024, already captained his national side by the age of 22. As a composed and skilful centre-back already proven in Serie A, Circati comes into the 2026 World Cup as the Socceroos' most polished defender. There may be no one in the Australian squad more important than him to the coach, Tony Popović."

Mexico got the job done 5-1 over Serbia in their third and final pre-World Cup friendly to finish with a perfect record of three wins from three in their warm-up matches after previously defeating Ghana and the Socceroos.

Safety first and it's always a risk but some pretty concerning information about the protocols for lightning. Something about very long delays and rules of big distances by which the storm must have cleared before resuming.

Bet our Paraguay game will eat into my work day.

Assan Ouédraogo has been called in to replace Lennart Karl. Don't tell me he's going to have the Marco Reus curse of tournament injuries.
