correct HG !
I actually do not think Paul was being serious. But he appeared to be reaching out for something that is not what we have now.

The only way we go back to State based competitions is if fuel became ridiculously prohibitive to use for non essential use. That is not so far fetched for economic and environmental reasons.

Pretty sure the game moved on from franchises.... well, many, many years ago.

I have no issues with so-called 'mono ethnic clubs' being in our top-flight (although, I would arbitrarily agree with the old NCIP, eg - no ethnic country club names in the top flight), but if they fail to match, and step up and fold / fall by the wayside in the process, then so be it.
So does it depend on what flavour the country club is?

I love Paul's football history pod, but going to state level as tier 1 is an all-time awful call. We need an additional national tier, not none.

Brazil used to have some sort of state comp where you qualified into the annual national comp as their league didn't they? I am not sure when that changed though.

I stand by my view supporters of old NSL clubs don't want what's best for football in this country as they want to drag the game back to the bad old days.
Same old bs racist crap.. hahahha "good of the game" but always only as long as the 'effniks' arent included or your franchises threatened... we got it champ.. rinse, repeat!

Easier to stay alive in a closed league bc as you rightly fear if it opens up the majority of your corner stores are as dead as the traditional milk bar!!

Thats reality, all the rest is all just convenient racist conditioning or pure unrestrained hatred.. you can self diagnose that in your own time!

As for those 'bad old days' tell me again what you fixed (based on your promises)? The marketing? The money? The inclusion? The violence? The club failures?? Wtf can you claim with a straight face that you succeeded in that wouldnt of happened anyway? The audacity or in this case chutzpah (to keep with your inclusice club) of the priveledged orating from their high horse!!

DeathtotheAL and nothing less and from there a proper ressurection for those that can rise to the top!

Luckily, it ONLY seems to be franchseis that fold out of exisitence... football clubs live on regardless of the racism.
More of this till the cows come home! Gotta love the irony of a system based on that much racisim/hate it self annihalates.......

The japanese did it as sense of remorse 'harakiri' the AL bc it no longer can sell the hate outwards!

Pop corn is on me when the next one falls!!

This is now my order of most genuine expansion locations for the A-league

1. Western Melbourne/Geelong - Training facilities already in place. Need a venue. Biggest population growth in Australia over next 10 years. Makes complete sense to have a team there without any bizarre property dealings - SIDE NOTE - NOT ONE PERSON FROM THE ORIGINAL WESTERN UNITED IS ALLOWED NEAR THE NEW CLUB.
2. Sunshine Coast - Will have the best A-league sized rectangle stadium in Australia there once built. Provides another Queensland team which is so important.
3. Canberra - Foundations long in place. Will generate strong interest initially. Challenge will be long term growth if an AFL team moves there permanently then they will struggle
4. Wollongong - Strong football history in a region which makes sense, and a suitable venue.

I don't see any other viable options and these are the only four that should be considered until Pro/rel is introduced.

Still think Christchurch is a go - but it needs to be soon before the NRL make it the 20th team. Their alternate target is Ipswich in 2030. Football needs to arrive and soak up the meaning corporate dollars before the NRL get there. As a Rugby nation they would be more open to Football over League.

Tarneit - Intaj Khan & Azeezur Rahaman Group are now looking to invest elsewhere and Stamoulis now seems completely uninterested in it.

Putting my obvious bias aside (see profile pic)

Canberra, Wollongong, agree. Western Melbourne/Geelong I think has to be purely Geelong. Otherwise it's a "do they represent us or not" situation.

Sunshine Coast, is an interesting one, I was going to say that they don't have a team in any national competitions so they'd probably embrace it (compare JackJumpers in Tassie) but then I did find that they have a Super Netball team. I don't that will detract or conflict with an A-League team so the argument still stands.

TBH - Geelong could be ready to go at the same time as Canberra. If the same two white knight investors Intaj Khan and Harry Stamoulis wanted to invest in a fast growing city they can use Kardinia Park first up before they develop their own small stadium like Harry's original Tasmania FC plan.

Wasn't Western United first created as a Geelong team? But Geelong booted them out and WU had to find a new base, enter Tarneit?

If they are going to shake it up, 2028/2029 is the year to do it. 2027/2028 is too soon for new teams in my view. They need to actually learn from their mistakes. Its also the last year of the Paramount deal so it should push growth for the renewal discussions that will take place throughout that season.

- Add in Sunshine Coast for the 2028/2029 season
- Strike an agreement with Melbourne City to move to a permanent new home in Dandenong - This is an absolute must.
- Make moves to get a group from Wollongong together to buy the Macarthur licence
- Get a proper Western Melbourne group together and start building a stadium in Geelong or Werribee. Werribee will be a large urban area inside 10 years
- Build a 15k stadium in Brisbane for the Roar
- Bring Canberra in

That takes us to 15 teams. Then open up to Pro/Rel to find the 16th team at a suitable time.
