Expansion Thread 🪜

Elaborate Jennings, CHILL ABOUT WHAT SMARTY PANTS???
Apl & FA don't love Australian Football. No progress to boast about. Start with14 teams, play No Less than 30 rounds, raise salary cap, introduce transfer fees, promote Canberra, South Melbourne and South Island. Then we can agree on something.
I'm from Sydney yet I still say get South IN!

@Ange's high line - I thought I made that abundantly clear by bolding the bit I was talking about.

No puffing of chest here, just exercising my opinion which is my democratic right in a democratic country.
for the heck I'll respond morning sharkman :)
You claim I have no idea but don't state why.
No expansion, no link with the only eco system we have, how do you suggest the game to expand (elite promising kids get a gig having a 2nd Pro league for eg) from your pov ?
I stand by my view supporters of old NSL clubs don't want what's best for football in this country as they want to drag the game back to the bad old days.
So you believe the countless later gens/fams registered kids/teens to Snrs don't want the best for football all round.
If you can't cope with that that is your problem that you have to come to terms with, not mine.
far from it, I wish for game finally expand for the future finally, be 1 force moving forward utilising the depth there is for many many gens ahead.....
One thing is for sure the bubble will burst as the game currently stands and something for the best will prevail.

Canberra, Gold Coast or second Brisbane, Wollongong and a South Island NZ team is needed.

That is expansion is it not?

Just because yourself and a few bitter old fogies want a return to the 1980's doesn't mean we need to bring back what the game had to and finally got rid of 2 decades ago.

oh the same model that is struggling and excluding the major support and development below.
Adding more franchise's isn't the only answer to expansion its band aid solutions.
I like to engage we agree to disagree for you end up with the same same carrying on of the past.

Nobody wants a return to the 80s as far as I can see. Most just want us to join up the pyramid.

Which is a return to the bad old days.

Besides South Melbourne fans and a few bitter old fogies no one wants to see clubs based on a single ethnic group back in the top flight again.

This "join up the pyramid" stuff is fanciful at best and outright stupid at worst.

The support isn't there, the money required for these semi-pro clubs to go pro isn't there either.

The A-League is struggling at present as the game never recovered from the Bourbon Bec shame files and the Victory Bucketman debacle.

If neither of these things happen, all this talk of bringing back the dinosaurs never happens and you know it.

Gonna try and make me Goebbels?
Anyone who utters the word of the South African regime pre-1994 deserves nothing but utter contempt.

Your club no longer being in the top flight is not apartheid, they're not there as they are a moncultural ethnic club and the game moved away from that decades ago, time you did too.

the bloke just vents abuse's and part of the resistance towards the game as much as he'll lol answer back blahblah
Its not even about joining the pyramid with APL, more so having a 2nd Pro division that expands the clubs reach with their below grades and encourages/gives the countless kids below a vision to become Pro and encourages countless clubs that have ambition to reach UP and better themselves in turn better our future prospects.
That's our whole huge massive crop below to take advantage of and finally nuture it like never before.
It even supports the one eyed view point of promising players to consider buying for his own comp/academies.

Hows the expansion to multicultural New Zealand going? You gonna put them in camps when your done also?

You must really hate the fact Australia is such a wonderful ,welcoming country. A nation which allows all of her citizens to celebrate their cultures anyway they see fit ..

I smile thinking of you sitting there in your miserable little existence pounding away at the keyboard against things you cannot change... hoping beyond hope that Pauline and Barnaby (Holy shit what name...) come to power to ethnically cleanse the Nestory's of the world out of their redneck Nirvana...

Ain't gonna happen bub, this is Australia we were BUILT on the hard work of immigrants from all over the world... you don't like it... see ya.

Calling out bitter old men who live in the past who don't want what's best for the game is not abuse.

It's just pure frustration these same bitter people cling to the past.

The NSL died for a reason, no one wants anything to do with clubs based on a single monocultural ethnic identity anymore.

These clubs went because the first gen supporters of these clubs passed away and their descendents assimilated into mainstream Australia.

Pretty sure the game moved on from franchises.... well, many, many years ago.

I have no issues with so-called 'mono ethnic clubs' being in our top-flight (although, I would arbitrarily agree with the old NCIP, eg - no ethnic country club names in the top flight), but if they fail to match, and step up and fold / fall by the wayside in the process, then so be it.

It was interesting hearing Martin Tyler this morning talking about the USA and their football structure.

He mentioned someone (cannot remember the name) of note, who looked at USA football, and said they only thing they now lack was Pro/Rel. Or something along those lines.

To which Tyler more or less said ....... "There is no way that the USA will introduce that".

I get that. They have a population 10 times Australia's. They can continue along this path for years to come. Expanding into other large market's.

But Australia does not have that benefit. Whilst I believe we have a stronger soccer culture (that has been purposely neutered by exclusionary policies), we are limited in our scope.

I sometimes wonder if my South Melbourne Hellas friend, Paul Mavroudis, is correct in stating that we should all go back to State competitions. Which does not necessarily be a benefit for my club, although nothing can be worse than our current predicament, where we play in the middle of winter against clubs with close to ZERO fans, and with no sponsorship of any substance.
