I would question whether Sunshine Coast would draw more than Gold Coast or especially a second Adelaide club. I guess having no real competition would help.
Mate you live in Brisbane so would have absolutely no idea about whether or not Adelaide could support a second club.

As someone who lives here and have done for a decade and I go to every AUFC game (the wife is a diehard Red) I can tell you that Adelaide is far too small to support a second club.

Besides interstaters like myself and posers who support Victory, the vast majority of the Adelaide football public supports United.

Again its not Aussie Rules where Port Adelaide and the Crows are natural rivals.

All a second club here would do is eat into United's fanbase.

Eating into another teams fan base should never be a factor imo. If you cant keep your fans after 20+ years of no competition are you really that good of a club?

Competition for Adelaide United would do wonders for them as they've been phoning it in for a long time, they need a kick up the backside.

Of course it wont happen but rest assured United wont win anything of note for a very long time.

Adelaide phoning it in??

In what way?

I hope and expect them to return. If you look at the population chart ^above^, it's a pretty good explanation as to why I originally supported Western United being admitted.

But if they do fail, the APL needs to go to one of the Melbourne-based NPL clubs and ask them to bid for a licence. We really need to go to 14 teams next season.
More complex than that. Agree we need to go to 14 next season - but Canberra seems to be blocked now. If both of WUN and Canberra get up fine. What if both stall.

Personally, if I was in the APL shoes I would be approaching Tony Pignata and Harry Stamoulis now for a Tassie team to be ready to step in for next season.

Reasons for accelerating Tasmania

both men have been interested in a Tassie bid.
Pignata set up Wellington quickly.
beats AFL by a year.
Stamoulis is needed because the Tassie govt will be skint soon because of the AFL stadium.

AFL will move to Bellerevie prior to Macquarie Pt is ready (if ever). The Tas govt will not fund football because they won't be able to afford their mounting debt.

If Stamoulis heads a consortium then when AFL move out North Hobart can be reconfigured next to a relatively vibrant entertainment area for pre and post game. Wentworth Park can still be the 'Home of Football' and a training facility for the main team. Before reconfiguration some temp seating can be utilised.

I think these two have the money and the experience to put together a club by October next year - even if given the nod by late March. Other alternates I can't see happening so we better hope that both or at least one gets up.

North Hobart will never been rectangular. Ever. It is the home of state Australian rules football in tasmania, and still sees matches played there weekly.

Better off trying to get Bellerive now that Cricket will be moving across too, however it is very residential there.

Plus I call BS on this ‘everyone already supports Adelaide United’ schtick; I’ve been to Adelaide myself - to a certain extent it puts even Melb to shame in terms of its AFL-zealotry.
Plus all those years of watching Sam Newman do his Street Talk segment there for the AFL Footy Show..paid off in preparing me for what it’s like😆

Bottom-line, both it and Brisbane need derbies before more teams from VIC & NSW join the fray - and Adelaide City are just too much of a storied 🇦🇺⚽️ institution to languish below the game’s top-flight here forever💡

Second Brisbane or a Sunshine Coast team plus Canberra is an absolutely must for mine.
Given that I think Brisbane will eventually end up at Perry Park except for marquee - where is another Brisbane team to go - North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct?

I'm an Adelaide City supporter and I can tell you we no longer have the fanbase to be in the top flight and the club doesn't have the cash either.

The late Bob D'Ottavi pulled us out of the NSL a month before its last season for the very reason of the latter.

Haven't the AFL said they will be moving to Macquarie Pt and in the meantime Bellerive will be the home of the new AFL team plus also state aussie rules? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Even if state Aussie rules stays the TSL and related regional competitions run from roughly April to September, with most games played on Saturdays. Use temp stands for October - March and live with an Oval for a couple of matches in April

Fuck you. How fucking dare you insinuate such a thing😡

Seriously, fuck you. Cunt.
Hit a nerve did I?

What does eating into an existing club's fanbase be for the greater good?

That was just a nonsense statement, which I replied with an equally nonsense statement which it deserved.

How’s this👇🏼 for ‘equally-nonsense’, then?

Based on past performance, I suggest that both Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast would regularly draw between 6 and 10,000 per game with the ceiling at Gold Coast being higher because of a bigger population. I'm not sure that it is valid to consign a Gold Coast Club to graveyard status. They have a good Stadium right next to a train station from Brisbane, a population close to a million and growing, and the stadium is accessible to the whole of the growing fun or the far north New South Wales region. People are understandably put off by Clive Palmers Circus comma but knowing the region well I am confident a club could work if well managed.

With respect, PJ, from a former Tasmanian I say not a hope in hell

So basically there will never be a Tasmanian side?
