debate thread for a league v nst/nsl

There is no doubt the more matches gets you battle harden, I agree with you.
But look at the 2014 & 2018 campaigns, we only qualified by the skin of our teeth.
I still don't think under the NSL do we qualify, the infrastructure was poor, you dismiss the Asian qualification route as being easier than the Oceania, while I agree on match hardness, I disagree.
To qualify thru Asia, you need coaches like Guus, Pim, Ange, 2020 Arnie & Poppa & not Farina, 2007 Arnie & the likes & the SA does not have the infrastructure to get coaches like FFA (FA) does.
Elo is probably the most reliable indicator. The late 80s to early 90s we have a similar elo to the 2014-2018 campaign period so probably qualify by the skin of our teeth or just miss out. The late 90s to 2010 we probably qualify comfortably

Having said that, teams improve not just when they get more players but when they play more regularly, so the elo pre asia is probably lower than it would've been if we were in asia playing regularly. I suspect that we are in the "qualify comfortably" period in the early 90s and late 80s too once you take that factor into acount, but very difficult to know one way or another

Think I recall Liam Reddy was another who near on played for every AL club.

Yer though sign of the times today (loyalty ?) $'s talk full stop now.

Don't mind people arguing, but want to keep the championship and the general a league thread 25/26 threads on topic. So please debates here and keep those threads on topic
There's an easy way to keep the arguments out of the main forum and that's to piss the old NSL nuffies off to their own section of the forum and keep them out of the A-League threads. Their presence in there is unwanted and not needed.

The invasion has gone both ways,
I made identical threads in both the a league and npl sections on nsl/a league debates and people have generally stuck to that
