changes to capital football

All the best players from Woden and West Canberra will combine to make decent squads. I do think they will come last, but not as badly as Molonglo did.
Weird that it's come to that, considering that West Canberra was supposed to be a Woden Valley and Weston Molonglo partnership. What technically is West Canberra these days now that partnership isn't there?

From my understanding, there was a partnership for the NPL pathway that involved West Canberra providing coaching support and resources back to Western Molonglo and Woden Valley, in exchange for the NPL players. I believe the relationship broke down when the coaching support and resources were not provided.

*this knowledge is from chats with people from the three clubs and is not from any direct involvement*

I wonder why they even exist anymore given that info

But are they actually a standalone now, or is it essentially Weston Creek (as in Tigers FC/Cooma after the Brindabella split)?
No idea, but its better then nothing haha.

Thing I found most interesting in the 2026 Declaration of leagues - National Premier Leagues that just came out it that the Tigers FC Girls have been promoted to the NPLG for the 2026 season. This proves that you can be promoted to the Premier Leagues from Community football if you set up a solid, sustainable and competitive program. I hope some clubs (not relegated for location) take this as a sign to work hard to get back.

Also, surely all of Gungahlin is relegated!! It is confirmed they owe ACT Sports grounds almost $200,000 and also confirmed Capital Football is also owed a decent amount of money (undisclosed amount). They also still owe multiple business, in addition to club members (who loaned them money). It would not be out of line to assume the debts are close to, if not over half a million.

Had a chat with someone from Tuggeranong Women's last week and they expected this *asterisk from Capital Football and are 'all over the issues'. They don't seem worried at all about meeting Capital Footballs requirements for them.

Interestingly... ANU is listed as "Decided not to participate in NPL Men in 2026" rather than "Relegated from CPL Men to Capital League Opens Division 1"

Does that mean Capital Football are trying to say that ANU met the criteria, despite not having a Youth Program??

well on the note of Gungahlin - it is one of the regulations of the NPL to not owe money to Capital Football (doesn't say anything about debts to ACT Government - only says 'must be financial' or something like that) - so surely they should be.

Interestingly they are one of the 'F-Wit Four' that wanted to power through with the changes, so will see how that pans out for them

I believe it means they didn't apply to participate, and therefore didn't submitted any documentation for the criteria.

Will see what the Gunners Gangsta's have to say about this one.

Wording is extremely important when it comes to documents like this though. There's a reason they've made that distinction. Monaro said they didn't submit any documentation for the Junior pathway (basing this off earlier Canberra Times articles), and they were listed as Relegated from NPL Boys into Junior League Opens

Interesting to see if Capital Football will go ahead with their 10 team NPL now or keep it to 9.

If they go 10 - do they allow Yoogali back in? Or do they bring up from CPL? Based off the exemptions and such, the next clubs in line are:

6th placed of 8: Canberra White Eagles
7th placed of 8: Wagga City Wanderers - removed from senior Capital Football pathway
8th placed of 8: West Canberra Wanderers

Logic suggests they'll go with White Eagles, but if West Canberra get back in the top flight, then this process is even more corrupt than we thought.

So they'll just let potentially 2000 players walk away? I know some/most will look elsewhere, but it's a mess at Capital Football.

Well… as they said to Monaro with their youth: there’s plenty of other clubs in Canberra.

I have no sympathy. They’ve been down this road 3 times in the past 10 years, and also backed Capital Football in rushing the review through (probably because they thought they could hold this out, and get another bailout being one of the closed shop NPL clubs)

Yep its a case of suck it up Gunners.
Monaro boys were told by everyone "just trial at other clubs and get a spot in already established teams with a reduced NPL player base. Shouldn't have been relegated in the first place blah blah blah blah blah ass".

Sweet karma given Gungahlin were 1 of the 4 clubs that didn't oppose the NPL Review.
