"Can you smell the fear?", do the other football codes in Australia (AFL,NRL), genuinely fear football?

Sins of the past ARE still the sins of the present.... 20 years later and MV is still "the big V" and the "sheilas, wogs and pooftas" are STILL trying to get a seat at the table... :(
And as I said, I can only do so fvcking much about it mate - I’m NOT James Johnson nor any of those other freaks that we both want gone💡
Trust me, I’d gladly get rid of them myself if I could(not necessarily by unaliving them, though👀)..but I CANNOT⚠️

Hey hey hey peace brother... NOTHING against you whatsoever, please dont take it as an attack... Im only laughing because it IS so serious... This whole thread is all about how other codes shit on football when its pretty obvious NOBODY shits on football from the outside more than we do to ourselves.

Both are true at once, and have always been - if anything, both inform each other like a cultural feedback-loop. There’s nothing more to it than that, really💡

I know it’s easy for some of us to dismiss ⚽️-bashing by the other codes as ultimately inconsequential, but IMHO it’s something we can’t afford to be blasé about.

I note that these are examples from 8 years ago already, but 8 years in the grand scheme of time isn’t all that long ago either; in the Internet/social-media age, you see how easy it can be for this prejudiced myopic sh1t to germinate👇🏼

It goes deeper than ⚽️ simply not being their sporting cup of tea - it’s due to all the accumulated propaganda over the decades scaremongering about the alleged “existential threat” posed to “our indigenous code”

You talking like an old man LFC.

Just because you got brought up on Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Neil Young, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen & in Australia, AC/DC, Angels, Midnight Oil, INXS & Chisel, doesn't mean we had the best life in terms of music. Or on the other hand we DID. I'm a proud old man, like you LFC.

Yeah but in EVERY other sport the "big V" was a representative state squad NEVER a club side.... that's HAL franchise revisionism right there bud :P

? Yeah, I agree with you mate on the first line. I'm confused though what you're saying about revisionism?

Are you talking about the actual VFL Big V on the shirt? Yeah we never had it like for like. I was talking about it as the concept, what it stands for, and the V turning into a chevron and then practically disappearing.

Hahaha love you to mate, not trying to be antagonistic , but it WAS pitched as state of origin big V back in the early days of Victory... Reebok screwed them over but the intent was there for Victory to be the replacement for ALL of Victorian soccer.

I don't think they were trying to replace all Victorian football teams. They'd know that other Melbourne teams would join the league. But they were going for something identifiable.

I always loved the Big V at Victory but it wasn't because of AFL state of origin, I know it's the most widely known one. Unfortunately, Victory seemed to have distanced themselves from the V concept years ago, never hear about it anymore.
Yeah the kit looks better with the V. I'll buy the next one that looks any good. I've been waiting awhile.

30 years ago you would've struggled to find a bigger AFL fan than I. Now I know their tyranny, they haven't got a penny from me in years and can't watch another game other than my club's. I still love my club, but even that's a tough watch because the rules change for the worse every year, and the interpretation every week! I think the people under 30 don't know any better, the game peaked in the 90s as a spectacle. Now it's "event goers" thanks to neverending media hype.

Back to my point. If a sport is degrading to me, why would I support it? Why would "sheilas, wogs and poofters" lower themselves to support them? Boggles my mind. Like if my I hear my butcher say that anyone under 6 foot is a midget and should be in the circus, I'd find another butcher.
I like the fact Aussie Rules is a sport played.

However, what I don't like is the AFL admin. Many regard them as bullies.

Surprisingly, with the AFL stadium issue in Hobart, I've done a lot of political doorknocking and stallholding in general, many young male and female Aussie rules players have been antagonistic to the upper echelons of the AFL admin.

They claimed the AFL admin did nothing for local grass roots Aussie Rules football. Everything they did, was to suck money into the elite AFL comp.

They won't say it publicly, but even cricket admin feels bullied by AFL in this state, when cricket is easily the second biggest sport in the world. AFL is non-existent as a pro league outside Aus. At key sporting ovals, the spectator seating is set up to watch AFL as opposed to cricket in terms of placement of stands.

it was pitched as one city one team to Victory mate... they well and truly DID want to get into the market first and be THE team for Victoria.. its why their crowds are so large today and why CFG and WU couldn't make a dint in their crowd numbers.

I don't blame them btw.

Alas, it is a VERY pale shadow of what it was 25+ years ago, care of all the unnecessary rule-changes imposed since.

The irony of this is astronomical given that cricket is, after all, the sport to which Aussie Rules owes its very existence in the first place💡
when cricket is easily the second biggest sport in the world.
I get the point you’re making, but I def wouldn’t phrase it like that.

This is also how I see it, as a person from Sydney, I just don't find any appeal of this game & in Sydney we already had a local "football', but understand in some states AFL is huge & have no problems people liking the sport, it's just the AFL admin bullies I don't like.

Yes Mono, I agree Football (Soccer in your world) admin in this country has done more damage to football than other sporting admins in this country, it's just that the AFL admin are far worse. Maybe because the NRL knows there is a bigger world out there & that Rugby League is not that big, whereas AFL thinks they invented women's sport, introduced professional sport to China. Sort of Nth Korean mentality.

Mate NRL and AFL are both fighting each other tooth and nail to be Australias #1 sport... AFL goes to China, NRL goes to Vegas, NRL goes to Pacific islands, AFL goes to Tasmania... its All one upmanship to get the biggest slice of the revenue dollar... they dont care, either one of them, about Australian representation or world acceptance, they just want to make more and more money and take the lions share of the pie ... The days of AFL worrying about soccer in this country, let alone even knowing it exists, are looooong gone. Both NRL and AFL are way to big to notice us. Any of us.
