CAF WC 26 Qualifying

There’s 54 nations and 9 spots, so 9 groups of 6 makes the most sense for there - the only thing that’s made it convoluted is the dropouts and playoffs
This is what I hate. Teams dropping out and turning things on its head. I get that not counting results against the last placed team shrinks every group but even then the minnow of the groups isn't always the smallest. It's an annoying disruption.

Seeding in the 2 ICP groups will be tight between CONCACAF, CAF and AFC teams.

Of the unseeded teams it would likely be much easier against NC than Bolivia, if a CONCACAF team gets seeded then NC and Bolivia may get drawn into the same group as the 2 unseeded teams.
I think from memory/what I’ve seen, unless one of the CONCACAF nations is Suriname, they’ll be the two seeded nations. Will make this part of my work project tomorrow lol

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has accused DR Congo of practicing “voodoo” during penalty shootout loss that ended 'Super Eagles' hopes of 2026 World Cup qualification

Where's John Safran when you need him?

Is there footage of that doco around still? That would have been good to trot out for the 20th anniversary

Ha this was a bit before Uruguay but wasn'T it a WC curse? It was Guus or Aloisi, it was Safran. Johnny Warren the great sport putting the blood on himself too. Breaks my heart he could see it all. Could you imagine his reaction and wisdom to some of our successes and many challenges? Had he been there against Uruguay :(

Yeah - from memory it was in the lead up to the 2005 qualifiers?
