Bulldogs Debate Page

This year final series will be annoying to watch knowing we would had beaten half these teams . Roosters could be tumbled out now Walkers out , Sharks 🦈 n bad form , South's got lucky easy draws as well a Cows.
Rounds 4,5,7,8,9 were all winnable games, and we only needed to win 2.

Rounds 13, 23 and 24 we also should have won 1-2 of these games.

We had a review after round 11 and that seemed to help, perhaps we should have had it after round 5.

Once is more than enough, I don't want to ever see a repeat of this season. I'm also sure that the players, coaches and managers don't want that.

We needed another 2 wins and we should have had another 4.

The other souces of frustrstion are

1) I expected the Broncos to win a lot more games over the last 8 weeks, and that would have helped us.
2) Refs cost us round 10 and round 19, and the players didn't handle it well.
3) The Tigers copped a few rough calls against the Cows
4) The Cows are a crap team and don't belong in the semis.

I only frustrated that we have nothing to play for this week.

Bottom line - don't rely on refs and other teams, nail everything under our control,

How many games of lower grade football did Galvin play before his NRL debut?

Zero - he went straight from school boy football to NRL.

Next best are guys like Nathan Cleary and Joey Walsh with 20-30 lower grade games.

Galvin has played around 30 games of NRL.

Walsh is a fair comp with Galvin, they have played the same number of grade games.

How good are Walsh's attacking stats and error rate compared to Galvin?

How good is Walsh's defence compared to Galvin?

Run the stats for any young half with less than 100 grade games. Many of them are still in the lower grades after 30 games, some have been tried in the NRL and put back in reserve grade.

I still think Galvin will eventually be a lock, but he will still be able to fill in at half or 5/8.

If we needed him to, he could do a job as a second rower or centre.

He might even play a few games at prop before the end of his career.

After 30 grade gsmes Cleary was better than Walsh, but not as good as Galvin.

Hopefully Woods is ready for 2027 so we can finally see what he is all about. I haven't seen him play yet hopefully the anticipation of him finally playing first grade is all what has been made out to be .

This is how I see our young players. The young guy has some attributes of the past/current player.

Galvin - Terry Lamb, Brad Clyde
Hayward - Terry Lamb, Craig Pouller-Mounter
Woods - Steve Mortimer, Thurston
Conti - Brent Sherwin, Brett Kimmorley
Johno Sua - Willie Tonga, Nigel Vagana
Chelden Hayward - Jethro Rinakama
Kade Dykes - Nicho Hynes
Tye Cocherane - Rod Silva
Latrell Fing - Rod Silva, Brent Sherwin
Joey Teaupa - isaiya Katoa

Volkman has extended at Parra.

We might be able to identify another player worth signing.

Woods is an option for left sided half.

I still think that the best left sided half at the club is Teaupa, but he played a mix of Flegg and reserve grade, probably not ready.

If Dykes is staying and does a full preseason, he might be a canditate.

Otherwise Critter or Hayward.

Now that we have Lussick, i don't mind Hayward playing 5/8 for a few weeks.

After listening to Gus, they will not rush Woods, he will probably need 3-5 games in reserve grade just to ease back into footy.

Broncos wanted it more at the start, but we have got back to 10-10.

Hopefully the side can switch on in the second half.

Kiraz has been unusually bad thev last 5 weeks.

Would have been worse if we needed to win that game to make the semis.

I always expected the Broncos to have a dig in this game.

When our attack was working well the ball was going from the dummy-half to a half.

We went back to passing to a lock and a lot of forwards passing out the back or catching the ball flat footed,

Salmon even looked good when we were playing direct and running hard. I don't blame Galvin, and i am not even sure that we are coached to play that way. Seems like we lapse into bad habits.

Broncos forwards outmuscled us.

I also think we had too much run out running in yardage this week and last week.

We were messing around with more ball movenent

Most of the stuff we got wrong this year in attack we also got wrong for the last 5 years.

Our attack was even worse at times in past years.

At least we will be back to being an unfancied team next season.

Lots of lessons from this season, we make it hard for ourselves at times.

Nothing wrong with forwards punching holes off halves, plenty wrong with halves getting slow ball from forwards with no runners.

All this passing in the forwards started with James Graham. All of our forwards wanted to be halfbacks tonight.

But the defence was well down on last week, close to our worst defensive effort of the year.

Lots of our players need to watch tape of that game.

Now it's 22 years since our last comp win.
Will be pressure on Cirro soon if we miss another couple of seasons especially if we miss next year semis . With more teams coming in will be harder to win one .

We have lost Curran, Xerri, Sua and Rauqe, but signed McClean, Lussick and Volatano.

We have gained more than we have lost, the only time passing the ball via the lock looks good is when Hayward plays lock.

Salmon looks good when he runs straight and hard.

Lussick will allow Hayward to play more time at lock or in the halves.

Volatano was a NSW U18s SOO player and performed well at that level. He had played a couple of NRL games for the Knights anf did ok,. Probably the favorite to contest fullback with Tracey.

McLean is a good winger but if we are short a winger, Tracey can play wing, Tracey could also play 5/8.

We still need another winger / cemtre.

Beyond that, I would strengthen the forwards.

We have a good squad, but our game needs work, mostly in attack and also some work on defence.

We also need to think about the role of lock and who plays lock in our side. If Salmon runs straight and hard he is more effective.

From 2028 onwards young players from our local development pathways should really kick in. That is why Gus is here.

Cirro and Gus are not responsible for 2005-2023. They were not in charge when we became a basket case.

Cirro's real record is 2024-2026, all top 4 clubs from last season missed the 8.

2026 was a real mixed bag, more bad than good, a few of our players had very disappointing seasons.
