Australian news and politics.

That was not an academic - that was John Howard. TBH in the grander scale of things though it is not a first order issue.

I am a supporter of a republic but not of a popularly elected President. However, in some ways with Trump as POTUS a consensus President with a fixed term appointed by Parliament probably the perfect time to have a referendum for a consensus President.
That was the common argument that you can have a monarch or a president not chosen by the people. In turn, they vote for parliament but that would have a fairly low bearing on presidential choice overall as there are many issues as to why people prefer a candidate.

I don't enjoy the republic movement view in Europe where it's basically supported just to stick another finger up at the UK. People think Australians simply want rid of such ties. You'd be surprised. Meanwhile the continent shut their mouths when their submission to a single currency is raised. Like all of these topics, are they effective? According to experts, it depends.

So now that Trump has called 'the war from within' (a treasonous act in itself) does the ANZUS treaty obligate Australian and New Zealand troops be deployed in the US. If so - on what side?
I highly doubt ANZUS has provisions for internal conflicts. It's much more about external attacks.

The same with NATO. Russia has incidents over Turkey but they'll just have a meeting and sort it because, Turkey.

Hastie resigns from the front bench. How long has Ley got left?

Hes a weird dude. Liberals are a shambles.

Look at Victoria. Labor somehow still will shit in the next election.

Interesting that Hastie gave evidence against Ben Roberts-Smith. So maybe he’s not all bad 😂

NSW Premier:

We're delivering commonsense reforms to the Liquor and Gaming Act to keep more people safe during and after a night out.

Right now, venues are required to immediately remove intoxicated patrons as part of their obligations under safe and responsible service of alcohol laws.

The issue is that this can have the unintended consequence of pushing vulnerable people onto the streets, increasing the risk of violence, sexual assault and getting hit by a vehicle.

So under these changes, venues can keep an intoxicated patron on the premises and actively monitor them while transport or medical assistance arrives, rather than requiring them to leave immediately.

There is no vibrancy without safety. So as we rebuild NSW nightlife, it’s vital we also improve safety and this measure will protect people when they’re at their most vulnerable.

So some drunk obnoxious fuckwit doesn't get kicked out of a venue?

"Actively monitor", yeah they're really going to dedicate a bouncer to watch one patron on a busy night.

That's what I thought. No way staff and businesses will want to babysit dickheads.

OK the statement does refer to the vulnerable. I think a lot of places do take care of those unwell until medical help arrives. There's a lot of sympathy for those who are struggling too. People misbehaving will get chucked.

I found it strange that no current politician has paid tribute to Jim Bolger the former NZ Prime Minister - especially those from the conservative side of politics.

Agree your mention those on the reconciliation tracks.

Sky News must be spitting chips after Trump praised Albo and we came away with multi billion deals for critical minerals.

They'll fixate on Trump saying he doesn't like Rudd though.
