import the 3rd world and become it.

Melbourne what a shit tip of a place to live in.

Yeah that's fucked up. I read a whole hand was chopped off and worse still, now they're saying it could've been mistaken identity.

Fucking scum.

Haven't caught up yet with all the above but will read through it later so apologies if this has been covered.

So a bloke on the weekend sneeringly commented on these anti-immigration protesters saying 'who do they think is going to look after the aging population if it wasn't for immigration'. Which is true but also an exercise in kicking the can down the road and not seeing the forest for the trees.

Let's say you have 800 people going into aged care each each so you bring in 1600 immigrants to pay taxes and work in those facilities to look after them. (Probably need way more but keep things simple at 2:1.) Those very same people will need looking after in 20, 30 or 40 years time and every year more and more old people are going into aged care. So 1600 becomes 3200 become 6400, 12800, etc etc

Fast forward 30 years and now you have 80 million people in Australia and you need to bring in 2 million people a year to look after the aging population that you brought in decades before to look after the aging population. Repeat ad nauseum.

What the fuck!?

And as we said before with plummeting birth rates and a worldwide population decline things are going to get very hairy in the future.
Wow you've just described the German pension system. The disgusting thing is leaders have known about this for 50 years with their models and projections. Did they implement policies to manage it? Of course not. The somewhat solid birth rates from the 80s have been decimated.

I get this too. I've read all sorts of articles saying mass economic immigration is being framed as a giant 'Ponzi Scheme' that is getting out of control....

It's a fair point.

But that's not the fault of the immigrant who comes for a better version of the life they're already living. Here in western countries like Australia we're sitting in these shining bubbles of prosperity outside of which are millions of other humans desperately fighting to get into those bubbles....

You can't blame anyone for that!

And while there are valid arguments for and against mass immigration, scapegoating the migrant for doing what anyone would do themselves given the opportunity is pretty weak in my opinion.

I don't think the vast majority of people have an issue with positive net contributors.

Check anywhere in the world and if more people come into an area that's already struggling with things like housing and services, it won't be met kindly. Yes, it's the government's job to sort it but they need to kerb the numbers.

One good example in Australia is the auto workers from The Philippines in regional areas. That's the right idea. The packing of the biggest cities, where the jobs are of course, still needs to be reconsidered.

What are some countries that have improved immensely where the local population would be more keen on staying? Kenya? Vietnam? That's generally been the international goal the past 30 years to some effect. Another issue is brain drain. We only get one shot at life but this also affects a place. Canada had one. NZ and Germany are still in one.

Youth punishment is a joke.

One of my mates works at juvenile detention. His stories are crazy.

These kids don't give a fuck because it's a holiday camp there, there is no fear or discipline. Plus some have up to 100k waiting for them when they get out if they're getting paid 10k a pop to burn somewhere down.

On a side note, this shit has been on the cards for years. I used to live opposite where there was a large african community. There would be kids that were almost toddlers playing in the parks or on the street until super late at night, no adult supervision.

I mean they go on about how the correctional system is to rehabilitate and stop reoffending but when do you throw the key away? Maybe places like Norway have better schemes. I'm sure Australia is either grossly under-resourced or overfunded and misdirected.

TSF was the last to post this and it's relevant every time.

but.........it is in fact a type of Ponzi scheme that needs serious thought and consideration because, if there is any thought, policy, consideration or strategy both sides of politics have done a piss poor job of explaining what it is.

I'm not anti-immigration. I'm pro-planning for the future. Aimlessly pulling in people from here, there and anywhere to plug gaps and put bandaids on here and there is a shambles in the making.

Your last sentence is bang on. Unfortunately in the public discourse, such comments get branded as being racist or xenophobic. Any respectable expert who then pulls out numbers saying thousands who came in to do STEM roles but have landed in hospitality roles or something much worse in the gig economy gets told the numbers are doctored. I'm referring to the very rational, future planning types we should be listening to.

Thankfully Australia is still stringent. Germany has this pipe dream of turning illiterate goat herders into engineers or scientists. They're starting to wave through foreign qualifications more and the mishaps are occurring more often. It's simply a different standard.

Just watching the news and they're showing the funeral for one of the police that was shot by that sovereign citizen. They're saying he was retiring this week.

Fucking hell.

It's absolutely gutting and puts so much into perspective. Just cruel.

So they have half the Victorian police force, afp and army resources looking for the killers of those two boys like dezi?

I know. Just look at the scenes on Friday night at Heidelberg.

Dinky di Aussies never did this

you comparing a few flares over chopped bodies?

Victoria had a problem when the imported half of Africa, you know it, i know it and so does everyone else.

I am not comparing them. Was just providing more evidence as to your point. I was helping you.

Which is pretty much what Britain has been doing for at least 20 years.

And now this badly run immigration policy is coming home to roost in terms of civil unrest. Particularly in the working class enclaves in the North and Midlands.

Australia's system of economic migration is not by any means perfect but I think it's been the best in the Western World by far.

Not sure how much choice England had in who went there. Every migrant that lobbed in Italy from Africa, just about, went to France and camped in Calais until they could get over the channel.

All the other countries on the way just let them through.

These small boat crossings across the channel are averaging around 50,000 per year....

Sounds a lot but it's barely 10% of the overall number of economic migrant arrivals in the UK which is running at around +600,000 net annually.

Tackling corruption globally would go a long way to stopping illegal migration and communities living in poverty etc. But it's a pipe dream.
