Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

Greece seem to be building a decent squad for the future. Mouzakitis (same position as Triantis, and is 18yo), Kostoulas (18yo), Karetsas (17, and stolen from Belgium), Tzimas (19yo) etc.

Karetsas in particular has very a high ceiling, probably better than Irankunda despite being 2 years younger tbh

Initially, I was scathing at Poppa for not giving Triantis a cap, and I still think some of his selections are questionable but on reflection, I’ve done a complete 180.
I now fully agree that you shouldn’t have to sell the Australian jersey. You’re either 100% committed or you’re not. If you’re not, then good luck for the future.
If you have a decent club career, you’re going to outlast more than three international coaches. If you’re ready to jump ship just because you missed one camp or didn’t start in a friendly, then maybe you don’t have the mental resilience for international football especially through the rigours of the Asian qualification process.
On a side note, we’ve gained far more than we’ve lost when it comes to dual nationals. The only one I can think of that we truly lost who came through all the junior ranks and had a decent career was Josip Simunic and we got the sweetest revenge on him in Germany 06.
Johnston, Dorigo, Viera and Seric are a few others we missed. I think we'll miss Triantis personally.

Welcome to the forum

I'd like to know what the "negative experiences" Triantis had in Socceroos camp. If there's a bad culture, we need to know and it needs to be fixed. Being an unused sub doesn't count, seriously.

Its certainly hard to tell from the outside. Alex our cohost said there were complaints about his man management at perth

@Joca41 once you play for one youth nation you have to have 3 caps for the senior team or make a one time switch for the other team
Cheers! The 3 caps spreads over the entirety up until any age?
I know one of the players mentioned on the watch list and he is making his Senior debut soon. He is a multinational with very good prospects. Thanks for the info's @grazorblade

oh who is it? Debuting for us or them?

I believe above a certain age a single cap is enough for a lock

He did play for Marconi when his father was manager there - not our junior National teams but the one player that came to Australia and learnt his football here that I would have loved to claim was Christian Vieri.

Not sure - his brother of course played for Australia and he was here from 4 years old so I expect he would have been able to apply for Australia citizenship. He did return to Italy at around 16 so he probably never was qualified,

After all this he is off to Minnesota. Kinda don’t feel so bad now.

Hard to imagine him playing in any national team now

wish him the best as much as the immature side of me feels schadenfreude at a mediocre club move

The irony is that with so many Australians in the MLS, it is a league that the Socceroos will select players from. I doubt that this will be true for Greece.
