I'm not sure how much professionals regress after a much needed 3 week break not to mention an intensive training camp. I think everyone should be given at least a week to have some R&R and then the business starts again. It's been a long season and those coming right out of season into a world cup camp with no break will be feeling it after 2 world cup games.

guus did a full pre season apparently with the 06 roos

It was needed, our team played together very rarely. They didn't really click until they were near their decline in 2009 and showed their ability (2011 asian cup wasn't bad, our best performance away from home). We also have a lot of new roos this time round since our younger players are more talented. So I wonder how to weight experince vs quality
 
Out of the current Aussies, I think only Kev is at the right stage of his career, however he needs to strike while the iron is hot to try Europe again - maybe the Championship (hopefully Wolves).

Aloisi just arrived in a good club spot and should prove he can win overseas. I think Corica needs to leave the A-league and Milligan has only just started.

We might need to go international.

I know this was anathema 15 years ago, but why not an English coach? Their football environment is entirely different to what it used to be, there’s a much greater chance they’ll understand the Aussie mentality and its unlikely they’ll see living here as a chore.

The nationality doesn't bother provided they're tactically sound and use our best assets. I can't think of any English managers off the top of my head. One important aspect is understand the treacherous conditions of Asia. This is often overlooked by non AFC types.

I'm a little baffled by the fact that budget. We went from 14million revenue in 1996 (and no deficit) to 125million revenue yet we can only find 1-2% to spend on grassroots, nothing to sponsor a nst to build towards p and r, not enough youth games and have pay the nt coach 1.3 mil

Do we have massive administrative bloat? Hard to tell without seeing confidential information but it is weird that football australia provides the same services as soccer australia for 10 times the cost. Inflation is another factor of course.
