Auckland FC

Anybody remember the "Football Kingz" or "New Zealand Knights".

Interesting why Auckland FC seems to have got of the ground up and running really well but the clubs before them were disasters from the get go.

Probably similar reasons to the reasons why Western Sydney wanderers worked better than the likes of parramatta power etc despite outwardly being similar concepts and playing out of the same place.

Plus seems like NZ football is in a much different spot now v 20 years ago in the same way aus football is a different beast post 05’ than pre

The other thing was the Kingz/Knights played out of Albany's North Harbour Stadium in North Shore.

Auckland basing themselves out of Mount Smart was a sensible move.

What also helped was the Nix playing games in Auckland and having big crowds which showed the public were crying out for their own team which was the case. The u look at sides like WU playing games in Tassie etc and no one showing up to watch. That’s why I know teams in Tassie would fail to attract decent crowds. Fish where the fish are.

Tasmania is an Aussie Rules state.

They only care about one football code down there and it isn't ours.
