Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

confused about our coefficient formula

I believe we have 6 participation points, 3 points in ACL and 3 points in ACL2
The points in the ACL2 need to be multiplied by a factor of 24/18 and a factor of 2/3. This means City have 6 points and Macarthur have 5.67 points. The you have to average the two scores. So I believe we should have 5.85 points

but the live coefficient check reckons we have 5

Yeah they overcomplicate it a bit.

You get normal points for ACLE. Two-thirds points for ACL2. Add them together and divide by the number of teams. That's about it.

Each team gets a bonus for making the tournament and each further round.

So each City win earns us 1.5 coefficient points. Each Bulls win earns us 1 coefficient point.

I'm not really sure what is going on with Atkinson. Seems to be mouthing off a lot more this season than last and has some really crappy passages of play as well as some great ones.

Just needs to focus on his game rather than getting so triggered by the refs calls or shithousery from the opposition…

He was horrible in moments, and then popped up with a brilliant ball for the winner!

Since he’s come back from Scotland he’s a shadow of the player he was before he left, and imo it’s due to the fact he’s had to come back and prove that he is good enough, but I feel he’s just trying too hard.

I've just had a look at the game.

That was a brilliant pass from Atkinson, showing good vision. Caputo's finish was superb too! What a predator's goal!
Was even more struck by his through ball a minute later. Would be a good pass if made by a creative midfielder. He has a lot of strings in his bow. Will be an interesting battle between him, waddingham, the toure brothers, jovanovic and archie goodwin

I think he has played better in midfield than at RB for City - last season.

I feel guilty saying it but many players will go backwards in Scotland. Technically, it leaves a lot to be desired. The movement off the ball to support the ball carrier in team possession is mediocre. Teams cough the ball up too quickly. They have to work very hard to keep possession. The priority appears to be teams winning the ball - more than keeping the ball.

The strength of the Scottish league is players will improve in 1v1 physical duels tackling, heading and body on body strength clashes. But those aspects of football being paramount are more superfluous in international football with nations playing nations - and - even the AL and Asian Champ League football.

Another strength of Scottish football is space is condensed more than the AL, so players have less time and space on the ball.

Celtic plays superb football!

Atkinson still needs to improve his 1v1 defending though. He got a few bad decisions. They were particularly frustrating when City were behind on the scoreboard.

I think I've seen Atkinson play RW for City last year. His attacking skills and ability on the ball may exceed his ball winning skills. Longer term he may be more suited to a box to box midfielder, or 8 midfield role, or even RW?

Last year I thought it was a waste if Talbot wasn't in the team. It worked when Talbot played RB and Atkinson played elsewhere.

How do you have the replay? I can't see it on Paramount
I thought of you with the result, MCG.

I was pretty pleased too.

On Paramount I found the replay easily. There were a whole lot of ACL replays with the Melb City/Buri game off the screen, but if one kept scrolling right it came up.

Good luck finding the replay. Did you attend the live game? It is interesting comparing the two. The live game, then viewing the replay at a later time.

I looked up Mazzeo, the RW sub. Yet another City player who is only 20. He had quite an impact!

I think Trewin looks like he can be an interchangeable DM and CB .There was a Spanish player, whose name I can't remember, in the era of Fernando Herrero the CB and Captain, who interchanged for the Spanish national team and Real Madrid between DM and CB.

Trewin played a lot of decent balls over range. He probably needs to sit, whilst if he has a twin in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 defensive midfield triangle, or 3-4-3/5-2-3, his partner needs to advance in the build ups.

Trewin could work well with Valadon. Their skills complement each other.

Not sure what Trewin's engine is like? He is certainly a tough tackling ball winner as a DM. I like his two footedness and two sides of the body proficiency. His handling speed is very good for a CB.

I thought the tiny crowd was appalling! An embarrasment for City. This was a big win on a very big stage.

These ACL Elite fixtures are big games. Many of the crowd appeared to be Buri supporters.

When our national youth teams played the 442, he was usually the striker that sat deep, so he has the passing range in him.
He'd probably do well if he played similar to Fornoroli and dropped deep sometimes.
