Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

ikon gets a half chance but changes feet takes a big backswing and then the chance is gone

at the other end, kurto nearly gives away a chance by taking two backwards steps to give himself a run up to the ball when a presser is close by

They let a cong An Ha Noi dribble around in the box for about 3 seconds with no one closing him down before he shoots

4v4 at the other and macarthur lose the ball with a horrid heavy touch

macarthur look pretty ordinary this year so far I have to say

Ikon in particaular

Cong An Ha Noi player does a 360 and Macarthur defender just starts randomly running away giving Cong a shot which is thankfully closed down

Bosjnak coming on for ikon thankfully

actually looks like an injury, hope ikon isn't badly hurt. Anyway Bosjnak an early sub

finally an attacking moment of note where a nice bosjnak cross produces a dangerous header

Macarthur currently trailing Cong An Hanoi 1-0 at the half in their AFC Champions League Two game.

Ikon with a 5.3 on fotmob, so not just me noticing he was poor then haha

on the one hand, rhis is probably the worst performance I can remember in ACL2 from an aussie side. Not only are we conceding the bulk of possession, for some reason it is us that keeps conceding attacks in transition

on the other 1-1. Game on!

Lucky to get a point so ill take it
Disappointing to read this.

When I looked at Macarthur in the AL a week ago it was a team that seemed like old journeymen - like Burinam playing Melb City.

Was it Jones the CB?, Hollman and Drew have gone. From what I saw at u 20 level, Deli looks AL quality. Is Fabio's son still at Mac?

As I've revisited Melb City v Burinam, MC played all over the top of them at the end and deserved to win.

Melb City has so many quality youth players good enough to step up or doing well already at senior AL level. Caputo, Razzeo, Shreiber, the young CB who came on, plus Durakovic, all fit the bill.

One older, young player stepping up is Kai Trewin as a DM. He must have a skill set a bit like the guy who went to play for Greece, since he is usually a CB.

Trewin had a lot of time and space on the ball against Bur. Having said that, he executes a very good pivot turn, also called the swivel turn, and in general has excellent body shape and handling speed when he receives the ball. With the the possible notable exception of Circati, no other Aus CB in the Socceroos has this sort of skill. Trewin also adjust his body shape superbly just before he receives the ball.

Trewin is also quite two footed. He receives and passes with quick two touch right- left or left-right and can hit players at range. Being a CB, he is a good ball winner too.

From the team I saw put out in the AL it was quite old with a lot of imports.

IMO as any AL team fills put with imports, teams lose the will to win that Pim and Guus so admired.

Do you think Mac had much of a will to win? Like City did against Burinam?

Hard to measure that but it was perhaps the most lacklustre performance ive seen from us in asia

Might have been hot mind u

We play Duke's team tomorrow night
Thanks for the reminder, MCG.

I'll watch on replay.

I've watched a lot of City games recently. I think you have the depth and experience to do better in Asia than other AL teams - as long as injury doesn't take its toll.
