Yeah there are a few factors that come to mind with it being done with.
1) The clubs don't get any revenue from it at all - all the money goes to the FA.
2) Nothing to play for except a trophy - No ACL spot.
3) Its supposed to be the show case of the A League - but lacks big crowds and dire TV ratings and zero promotion.

Yeah, but Adelaide fans thing the A League is perfect, because of their myopia. And their sell out final(s) will just reinforce that myopia.

Auckland is bringing in vendors and slides to engage families.

City have a few activations for families outside aami which I believe victory do as well.

Not sure what Adelaide do I think someone needs to talk to them. I think basically we need to go back to basics cheap tickets and good support with membership things like that

Other people on here disagree with me as well but I hate my club signing victory players I think it's stupid. So there's a lot of things that happen that disconnects fans and then the suits make stupid mistakes like the Sydney grand final doesn't help

The way I see it, is that basically the A-League has settled to it's organic level of support, memberships, ratings, etc.
People like to point to the early popularity in the A-League, but these numbers were not what they seemed.
MV in particular basically flooded the state with free tickets. Very easy to get people to attend something for free. Even easier when it appears to be popular with 20k+ people going every week. Basically what they did was post members a free ticket or two every other home game. It worked, but the league stopped growing. Quality stayed the same. Stupid admin decisions rubbed fans the wrong way. Free tickets pretty much dried when AAMI was built. Since then everything has just settled to an organic level given the closed comp and lack of meaningful growth. I don't see it as the league having a problem, I see it as this is what is possible in this country without a proper league and without a proper plan.

To be fair they were fairly popular in the early years of the A league, especially when the season ended in Feb. Once it got extended into afl and grassroots football season the cracks started emerging. No bbl and the nbl was a joke 20 years ago, i know people that go to the nbl instead now in summer.

yep likewise re about the nbl. Melbourne united get similar crowds to victory now and south east melbourne phoenix get similar to city

interesting post. I tend to agree. if that is the case, the A League is hard up against its glass ceiling. without any real possibility of growth.

it doesn't explain the TV decline, however.

The fact that the FTA is on a secondary channel will not help. Pay-tv do not usually release figures, instead concentrating on overall subscriptions.

As i have previously said, the first week of the finals have always been lowish crowds. They should pick up this weekend.

Plenty of opportunities for growth, just not without change.
TV is largely irrelevant. The overwhelming majority of the population no longer watches FTA TV in any substantial amount. There is a reason it is referred to as legacy media in the industry. Streaming numbers are far more important. Unfortunately for us we don't know what those are like. We do know that the free streaming options (10play, abc iview, sbs on demand, etc) see steady year on year growth.
