That’s the thing, unless they’re old and gonna retire I don’t see what the point of one-year contracts is. Even if they’re bound to go overseas the club should get money for their fees. Now’s the right time too with transfer fees fast approaching the $2 million milestone globally.

I doubt clubs are savvy enough to see potential transfer fees.

Everyone would have a transfer fee if they're in contract. The transfer fee is decided by the market. If someone's overpriced they won't get bought, if someone's underpriced they'll be chased by lots of clubs, and if someone's good they'll pay a reasonable price.

What I’m saying is that I don’t think clubs see transfer fees as a potential revenue source.
As James Johnson pointed out it is a big part of the football ecosystem.
