All Stars vs Chelsea match thread

Three changes for the A-League Women All Stars in the 60th minute. Claudia Bunge, Mackenzie Hawkesby and Chloe Lincoln come on for Karly Roestbakken, Tameka Yallop and Courtney Newbon respectively.
 
Four more changes for Chelsea, also in the 60th minute. Keira Walsh, Mayra Ramirez, Giulia Dragoni and Lexi Potter come on for Wieke Kaptein, Sandy Baltimore, Sjoeke Nusken and Aggie Beever-Jones respectively.
 
Lexi Potter scores in the 70th minute for Chelsea to extend their lead further and make the score 3-0. Giulia Dragoni with the assist.
 
Three more changes for the A-League Women All Stars in the 71st minute. Shelby McMahon, Melina Ayres and Pia Vlok come on for Makala Woods, Grace Jale and Rebekah Stott respectively.
 
Three further changes for Chelsea in the 73rd minute. Lola Brown, Nelly Las and Chloe Sarwie come on for Ellie Carpenter, Lucy Bronze and Katie McCabe respectively.
 
Lots of jersey swaps at the end so all the selfies everyone took will have the wrong jersey in them LOL.

She is right of course women’s football must professionalize if it is to reach its potential but no one wants to make that happen. Everyone seems to be happy just shunting our players overseas and hoping they get the opportunity to compete at a higher level.

Sure, professionalise. And who pays?
People say this as if it's just a matter of someone pressing a button.
The average attendance last season was 1,888.
In what parallel universe does this suggest full time professionalism?
I wish things were different but the numbers are what they are.

If it were professional we would still be exporting players (she’s got one of them on her team). We want that. Professionalism gives higher wages and more transfer fees. The fees would then go into the club to invest in further development.

The WSL 2 (a second division) had an average attendance of 2,086 last season, it’s fully pro. That’s not much higher than here and for a country of England’s population size it’s actually far smaller than the 1,888 that go to A-League Women games.

What the APL and FA need to do is maximise on the support from things like the All Stars game and the Matildas. Obviously national team support will always be much higher (as it is for the Socceroos versus the A-League Men) but we’ve clearly got a bigger market for women’s sport in this country.

Surely if both a world-class coach and a world-class player are sitting in a room saying we’ve got talented players but need professionalism then they do it. The fact that foreigners think about us (rather than dismissing it as “some random league from the other side of the world”) should make us proud, now’s the time to prove them right.

There are a number of players who have gone overseas and hit the big time but most go for better conditions and a chance to improve their game in a professional environment. If that environment was here then they would stay and that would consequently improve the game here.

To an extent, but it depends. Some players just want the opportunity to go overseas and travel the world. For example, AKB plays for Gotham even though she’s German and she’d start for Bayern (and probably over almost all goalies in the women’s game other than Cata Coll and Hannah Hampton).

What I would hope though is that the transfers are for good amounts of money. Some have gone for fees but others have gone on frees, such as pretty much all of City’s squad that left. And it’s certainly possible, for example Felicia Schröder became one of the most expensive women’s transfers of all time when she left Häcken for Real Madrid.

The vast majority of the Melbourne City women's playing list only walked for free as they had fallen out of contract but definitely the likes of Shelby McMahon and Peta Trimis have the potential to make it overseas for large amounts of coin in the near future.

That’s the thing, unless they’re old and gonna retire I don’t see what the point of one-year contracts is. Even if they’re bound to go overseas the club should get money for their fees. Now’s the right time too with transfer fees fast approaching the $2 million milestone globally.
