A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 7

Genreau suspended for 2 matches.
I've read recently, DG played in a Toulouse team that beat Man United at home 3-2 in a UEFA Champ League game some time ago.

That was the high point of his club career to date. I wonder if his temper has cost him?

In the Victory games I've seen IMO he has improved decidedly and should be a Socceroo contender. I've been impressed by his attacking mid role in some Vic games. He has done some stupid things though.

Toulouse v Man U in the UEFA Champions League???? This never happened.

It is very hard to take your comments seriously at times. You say you read various things, like this, that never actually happened.

Injuries cost him. Was a regular starter in their promotion year but then kept getting injured and ultimately wasnt strong enough to win his spot back

It was on A Leagues FB site that appears on my FB feeds - I think?

I definitely read it. Genreau commented on the games. Toulouse lost away to Man U, then won at home - according to what DG said, and was quoted as saying. I can’t imagine DG would make it up?

What surprised me is that he had played at such a high level?

A dodgy game so far for Macarthur and VicTory (I know you ken what I did there Sutho ;)).

Both sides struggling to complete basic passes. Players standing flat footed waiting to see where the ball goes before moving when they have possession, vison without accuracy or no vision at all with players running into deadends.

Macarthur stringing more decent passes together in their half of the field and coming forwards but losing cohesion once they get into the final third. Rose battling ferociously and winning balls he shouldn't but then passing back to Victory or having no-one at all to pick up the spoils. Caceres trying too hard and doing too little - with the commentators saying he joined Macarthur to .put himself in the national window he does look like he is trying to force his case when he woudl be better just playing his usual game and creating opportunities with skill and vision.

Victory, with Reec and Jelacic as two of their three forwards, just lack the direct finishing threat up front when they do venture forward. Of the two teams they are more disjointed all over the pitch - where Macarthur can at least play the ball out of their half.

Both teams lacking confidence and familiarity within their team.

Been a couple of chances each way and Victory edging that side of it - but neither team is owning it.

0-0 with a very nice Santos goal appropriately pulled back for a foul in the build up.

Much better second half for Victory with Velupillay coming on around 60 minutes.

Gave Victory just a bit more forward focus. Unfortunately (in my eyes) at the same time as Velupillay coming on, Jelacic went off. He had been one of the better players in the first half with a few very nice touches. I would have seen Jelacic in behind Velupillay as a good option with their skills being compatible.

Victory's attacking capability was summed up perfectly in one moment later in the second half. Santos got the ball just outside the corner of the penalty box and drove infield. When he got a line on goal, Velupillay saw that he was blocking the shot and ran out of the way. Santos then rolled the ball towards where Velupillay was getting out of the way with his back turned. Pfffft.

Some moments for both teams, and some players like Talbot for Macarthur putting in a really good shift but just not enough at the pointy end for either.

Harry Sawyer for Macarthur works hard to get into positions and the ball doesn't come. When it does come he is often heading elsewhere unless it is a simple high ball in from a corner.

0-0 an appropriate scoreline given the lack of quality being shown on the day. Victory look to me like the team more likely of the two to snap out of it.

One relevant thing from the commentators though - Macarthur had a flu bug run through the club this week and some still getting over it. That on top of playing ACL2. Not making excuses since I don't give a stuff about them, but relevant to the poor form.
