Remember, there is three other "Franchise leagues" we are up against, and apart from super rugby, their attendances are booming. They don't have Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night games to affect their attendances.
yeah non football franchise leagues seem to be able to grow (and from a healthy base) but that seems harder to do with football based franchises

I’ve got an IPTV, which has just about everything you could imagine or want. It has ABC, SBS, and a few versions of 7 and 9, but not channel 10. Hence why I’m watching it on CCTV5. I know the Chinese will be showing it.
And to be fair, the coverage of women’s football isn’t quite there yet.

The other thing is with the exception of Super Rugby these other non-football leagues are generally the best of the best in their respective sport.
Also they can claim year in year out its never been better since there is no international game to compare with
Cricket (one of my main sporting.passions) is probably the only sport we play in this country that has a solid international game where we're generally either the best or among the best in the world really.
cricket is an interesting case where people don't care too much about attendances of the top league but care about the international and grassroots side. I couldn't tell you sheffield shield attendances but ive seen empty stadiums
Aussie rules is the national sport of Nauru and has a decent following in Ireland, NZ and PNG. But yeah other than that it’s mostly (but not entirely) expats in other countries (though the AFL does like promoting being global and multicultural).
