A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 21

Not sure

I think frachises start big then revert to the mean. Crowd averages are above what u would expect globally even today when u look at what crowds u would predict from our wages. So probably the only way to grow in a franchise model is to continuously sell new licenses to have new franchises (some starting crap others starting with a boom) then raise wages using money from license fees like the usa does

Even there the franchises stagnate even as the league as a whole grows
Remember, there is three other "Franchise leagues" we are up against, and apart from super rugby, their attendances are booming. They don't have Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night games to affect their attendances.

yeah non football franchise leagues seem to be able to grow (and from a healthy base) but that seems harder to do with football based franchises

If only Paramount and 10 play worked outside of Australia. Yes VPN I hear you say, I had a VPN for 15 or more years in China. I’ll be watching it on CCTV5 with Chinese commentary. Sigh……….

IPTV,£50 per year, take it anywhere with you.
I’ve got an IPTV, which has just about everything you could imagine or want. It has ABC, SBS, and a few versions of 7 and 9, but not channel 10. Hence why I’m watching it on CCTV5. I know the Chinese will be showing it.

What a clearance by Marcel Tisserand! Reminds me of Micky van de Ven against Man United in the Europa League final last year!

Half time: 0–0. I know I’m late with this but why can’t they schedule the games so it doesn’t conflict with sunset rather than having a fasting break?

If Tomar Hemed couldn’t celebrate wearing a kippah, why can we break for Ramadan?

The other thing is with the exception of Super Rugby these other non-football leagues are generally the best of the best in their respective sport.

The A-League will never be among the best football leagues in the world and Australian sports fans are generally used to seeing the "best in the world" in their own backyard in sports like rugby league, cricket and Australian Rules.

Also they can claim year in year out its never been better since there is no international game to compare with

Football makes it harder to hide with the most mature international game in the world

Even tho few watch asian football, better results there and better socceroos results probably make a difference in perceptions

Cricket (one of my main sporting.passions) is probably the only sport we play in this country that has a solid international game where we're generally either the best or among the best in the world really.

The others have a limited international game (rugby league) or exclusively played in Australia (Australian Rules football).

cricket is an interesting case where people don't care too much about attendances of the top league but care about the international and grassroots side. I couldn't tell you sheffield shield attendances but ive seen empty stadiums

Aussie rules is the national sport of Nauru and has a decent following in Ireland, NZ and PNG. But yeah other than that it’s mostly (but not entirely) expats in other countries (though the AFL does like promoting being global and multicultural).

Melbourne City leading Sydney FC 1-0 near the end of regulation time after Max Caputo scored in the 53rd minute, with Daniel Arzani getting his first assist in A-League Men this season.
