Just having the right to say you won't the league and you'd think and ACL spot would be enough.

Add in financial incentives as well, for example a player can get a higher bonus for winning the league or at least on equal terms with the grand final win.

The Aussie clubs are exporting more talent as evident by the fact that the All Whites and even the Football Ferns still have multiple A-League players in their squads including diaspora such as Lachie Bayliss (born in Darwin) and IPR (born in Auckland but raised in Brissie).

Congrats to Auckland but a scrappy game won’t help the broader picture of a league struggling to gain attention.

Unfortunately it is the Australian way in pro sport. You will just have to get used to it. What works in Spain, doesn’t necessarily work out here.

Poor quality game, every players first touch seemed extremely heavy and there was little (if any) moments of high quality skill.

That said, justice is some way for Auckland who were far and away the best side last year and got screwed by a one-off snatch and grab in the finals. The scenes last night were a year late, but deserved none the less.

For Sydney, a win would have been a joke. I keep hearing how Kisnorbo has turned things around at Sydney, but really the numbers don't show that. Their league position dropped from 3rd to 5th and their total record (exc penalties) is 2-5-1 and, to be honest, the win against Victory was total BS. It includes two fairly average draws against Brisbane and Perth whose Seasons were over. Sydney have the money, I am sure there will be some decent changes for next season to give Kisnorbo a full season. The league needs Sydney to be 'bling', dour and gritty just does not suit them.

Steve Jobs once said, in response to Microsoft's endless focus groups seeking to understand what consumers wanted, that that in his experience people generally didn't know what they wanted until they saw it. that approach certainly worked for Apple.

To say that Australians don't want pro rel is an unsupportable assumption based on tradition in AFL and NRL.

The real problem is that there simply isn't the money to make it work. Making it work means a national second division. Not in my lifetime.

I didn't think it was a terrible game to watch, but don't like the Auckland style.

It is bad for football.

Plenty of long, high balls looking for Cosgrove.

Good at set pieces.

Good 1v1 winners in body on body, tackling, heading duels.

Excellent off the ball Pressing and Squeezing.

Playing down the flanks to quick wingers on the break.

Lot of desperate last line defending.

Auck foul a lot.

It was like a good Scottish team, or English Champ style team of 10 years ago, winning the AL.
