2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Rule of thumb seems to be if Auckland can turn your fast break back even momentarily they are safe.

Very quick to reassemble in defence.

Auckland proved miserly against very good attacking sides last season. They are very fast in defence on the turn which means teams often have to beat them twice to score - once to get in behind then again on the shot.

They nip and niggle all over the pitch with marginal fouls and it just helps break up the systems and fluidity of opposition players.

At the pointy end they can be bloody clinical with very few chances.

I am not saying Heidelberg can't beat them - but I expect it would be a much harder game than you might imagine.

Sydney on the other hand seem to stumble through defensively and stumble into attacking options - but they do it consistently and they win regularly so it isn't as disjointed or lucky as it may seem.

They also nip and niggle to upset their opponents.

I will enjoy the challenge of the game whoever they face in the semis.

No doubt... domestically though i think Sydeny scalp wouldve allowed more bragging rights to the bergers! Not based on the football but the aftermath.. bc end of day they are NZ no real footprint here just that they in the aleague!

The only bragging rights the Bergers care about is when it involves us "you lost to them 3-0 and we beat them haha" - we will be hearing about it for decades😂
 
A game that didn’t go to great heights, Sydney had alot of young players out there and looked ok but they will strengthen their squad with more players.
You can tell Auckland have got the quality of players but they didn’t show enough to threaten Sydney’s goal keeper.

The pens well less said the better, players slipping over, feel for young Macalister one of the worst pens you will see but he’s only a kid so I hope he’s ok from that experience.

It’s been the same for all cup matches we play, not that we get many at home.

Let us measure once we get back at home, in fuckin January.

No one wants to go to Kogarah, as it is dire for football. Our crowds dropped off a cliff when were there for 4 seasons, only averaging about 8 or 9 thousand.
