The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Apologies for bringing this up again, but do we think the budget cut back would be primarily for the npl squad with an eye on a future h/a championship? Ie cut back on wages in the npl/make it development focussed set up, but still look to spend on a a squad if/when the nsd kicks off for real
TBH its a wonder they have anything figured out whatsoever the way I see it.

Its not hard,,, next weeks matches are on Saturday midday and NOBODY wants that, not even the Aleague.
Isn't South's match at 3:35pm?? But yeah, the midday match is going to be a tough one!

I think you misunderstood Guus.. 3.05 on a Sunday isnt good, it is just slightly BETTER than 3.30 on a Saturday :)
OK I'm with ya now 👍🏼. Is this regarding attending or ratings, or both?

Any chance we can go without the month off after NPL next season? Would help with the weather too.

Knowing the FA, maybe :ROFLMAO:

Theres every chances SBS has dictated these kick off times.

Before the championship kicked off, one of the biggest talking points was ensuring the matches didn't clash with A-League KO times.

that's why we saw group games at 1pm on Saturdays etc.

As part of the post-competition review of what worked and what needs to be improved, focus needs to be the kick off times and getting that right.

I think we can all agree on the following kickoff times:
Friday 7.45pm
Saturday 6.00pm/7.30pm
Sunday 3.00pm/3.30pm/4.30pm

The Friday night (7.45pm) and Sunday afternoon matches (commencing after 3.00pm) have been great.

No competition, whether it be NPL, Australian Championship or A League could make a 12.30pm semi final kick off work.

That discussion would involve SBS TV, clubs and Football Australia. I think there's enough goodwill and positivity to continue refining and improving this competition.

Less policing for low risk, nothing matches.

If you're both talking specifically about Belmore Sports Ground and Sydney United Sports Centre it's not TV coverage that has anything to do with your collective attendances or fortunes over the past few years.

our crowds have been great pre covid and just after it, 2022 was peak.

this season has been woeful, yes there are other reasons why crowds have dropped off, (internal problems) however you'd need to be kidding yourself if you believe the easy access to TV coverage doesn't effect it. I've got friends that rather do a BBQ at home and watch it on TV, cause they CBF going. I still stand by my comments, ban live streaming, if you want to watch it, go to the stadium.

on our day, we are still the best supported club in NSW.

Night games look better on TV. APIA v Marconi was great, modern ground, good facilities ( for NPL ;) ) gives it an event vibe.

Marconi at 12:35pm is idiotic.

Look at the youtube views of Apia v Marconi on Friday compared to the other games.

It still doesnt explain how this was thrown out the window for Friday nights.

Maybe not a blanket ban, just localised to the state/fed. I watch NPL from all over Australia online, would be the end for me if I couldn't access it. They used to do the same for AFL, local matches weren't live (usually delayed) or not shown at all. Don't know what they do these days.

'minimize' clashing. it was always going to happen to some degree.

there is only 2 weeks left of the championship, i dont believe the numbers have effected the AL in any way, shape or form.
Good sign imo, this has shown that the A league and a second division, new and traditional clubs, can coexist and potentially even complement each other if done correctly

Spot on. Both the Australian Championship and A League can work together well. It grows the sport and level of interest across both competitions. You just avoid matches clashing on the same day with same state teams in each city. The Australian Championship can work around the A League fixture as a sign of goodwill.
