There are those who do like both codes yet aren’t fans of the AFL organisation’s undermining of ⚽/flexing its domestic sociopolitical muscle@ every turn in general. Those ones are okay(ish) in my book, so long as they do actually call out the AFL on its BS.

It’s the ones whose loyalties lie blatantly w/the AFL and have this blasé “it is what it is” attitude towards the code-wars; they’re typically Eurosnobs w/no desire whatsoever to support 🇦🇺⚽️ in any capacity, oh…

They utterly do my head in😡

I always loved the Big V at Victory but it wasn't because of AFL state of origin, I know it's the most widely known one. Unfortunately, Victory seemed to have distanced themselves from the V concept years ago, never hear about it anymore.

30 years ago you would've struggled to find a bigger AFL fan than I. Now I know their tyranny, they haven't got a penny from me in years and can't watch another game other than my club's. I still love my club, but even that's a tough watch because the rules change for the worse every year, and the interpretation every week! I think the people under 30 don't know any better, the game peaked in the 90s as a spectacle. Now it's "event goers" thanks to neverending media hype.

Back to my point. If a sport is degrading to me, why would I support it? Why would "sheilas, wogs and poofters" lower themselves to support them? Boggles my mind. Like if my I hear my butcher say that anyone under 6 foot is a midget and should be in the circus, I'd find another butcher.

Yeah but in EVERY other sport the "big V" was a representative state squad NEVER a club side.... that's HAL franchise revisionism right there bud :P

I reply when asked who I barrack for that I don’t follow the game anymore but when I did, it was Essendon. Typically they’ll assume I stopped following bc of the drugs-scandal from last decade, but I clarify that I checked-out WELL before all that..!

100%. It truly was the best ‘purely-indigenous’ team-game in the world then, no contest. Then they fvcked it up and have continued doing so to this day, for literally no good reason. And as you say, the AFL today is overly-reliant on the patronage of supporters who weren’t yet alive back then(mind you, the old heads aren’t collectively much better in that regard - if they ever had the will to voice dissent, it’s long gone now😔)

As I said, they never claimed to have invented the concept per se - they openly admitted it was derived from the VIC 🏉 State team.

As for the other stuff, yes it’s undeniable what the intent was in context of Lowy&O’Neill’s ⚽️ing purge..but we must focus on fighting the good fight to change it all now, and not remain fixated on the sins of the past 24/7.

Sins of the past ARE still the sins of the present.... 20 years later and MV is still "the big V" and the "sheilas, wogs and pooftas" are STILL trying to get a seat at the table... :(
